Why do people call you a slut when you don’t even sleep around?

Like honestly it’s kind of funny when girls will spread rumours or guys will imply you’re a slut or tart when in reality you don’t even sleep around at all and only tend to have Sex with a partner in a relationship.

Why say such things then? Is it just to damage your self esteem and reputation? Being vindictive?

When someone calls you something you're not, it shouldn't do a damn thing to your "self-esteem", if you're an adult. If you're a child, that's a different story. If it hurts you financially, or your business reputation, that's a legal matter. It could be slander, libel or something like that.

Guys, or girls, call others that in an attempt to bring them down and build themselves up. It's an ego power play. Most of the time, if they call someone that who obviously is not one, they're envious of that person's character.

I think some women do this because they are jealous. Men might do it because they don’t get the attention they wish they had from this girl. I think the important part is if that woman falls into their provocation or not, if she is not a slut she can simply laugh and go on living her life and minding her own business. If you project self respect, self love, a positive vibe and joy for life…then people will reciprocate that, haters will always hate especially when you shine from within…it’s weird but it exists.

The word is pointless anyway now. It seems to now refer to either a woman (or man, increasingly) who is perceived to sleep around. It even gets thrown-around when someone dresses a certain way. And it also gets used if someone just THINKS someone is trying to look sexy, whether they are actually trying or not, and is sometimes not even meant as negative/insulting any more. Example, when I was first going out with my b/f we met up one morning and went shopping. It was a really hot day and I was wearing a denim mini-skirt, bare legs, trainers and a strappy top. On the way home he told me he'd being trying to prevent himself getting a massive hard-on all day because he loves the "slutty" look... I was initially taken aback, I mean I was glad he found me attractive, but it was complete news to me that what I was wearing was "slutty" and it then made me question how it came across to other men who simply just saw me.

Strange history for the word Slut. When it first appeared in print it was used to describe a sloven man. Someone who did not take care of his appearance and kept his living quarters a mess. Then it was used to describe a woman who kept company with an untidy man. Then it was used to describe an untidy woman and lastly a woman who who "slept around". Go back and reread the parts in Genesis that describe the changes in God's expectation for Adam and Eve upon their expulsion from the Garden. Taking into account that Hebrews never directly addressed sexual behavior or genitalia, it seems Eve's punishment was that she would always be seeking the company of men. I don't think her intensions were for playing checkers. And does it not follow that fulfilling a punishment assigned to one by God is an act of obedience, doing his will? Analogy; If the majority of women sleep around in college and men don't even hear from the female minority shaming it, what are men to think? When guys go 2 or 3 dates with a girl and she's not giving up the goods he thinks it's a judgement on him since women will so often sleep with the guy on the first date. Literally by dictionary definition, if you’re not promiscuous, you’re not a slut.

Guys can sometimes call other guys a c**ksucker, but that doesn’t actually mean that they actually suck c**k. It’s an insult.

Thing is i yet to meet a girl my age who hasn't slept with many people, women just dont talk about it too much (probably because of this issue) I have lots of close female friends.
