i know her through the pub scene here so obviously i knew she drank and smoked a little marijuana but now other stuff is coming to light.

have heard about magic mushrooms also known as psilcoybin as its been around here for a while and popular among younger drug interested people.

but not exactly sure why she'd be interested in this specific drug as i recall its known to trigger hallucinations and mind altering thoughs but have heard of other reasons and is a lot of research being done into its exact uses. so not entirely sure what the appeal is as i've personally never tried it

guess i'm trying to make sense of whats going on with her , she plans to go away to school for nursing this fall so the drug use seems off as she seems to have her life in order , she's also not entirely open to me about her drug use and doesn't seem to think there is any issue with using this drug despite the fact its illegal here and classified as a controlled substance despite fact marijuana is legal now here

also note she's attractive , has a boyfriend , dog, friends , job. nothing about her life would scream drugs other than her party scene image

You may find it helpful to read Michael Polland's Changing Your Mind: The New Science of Psychedelics.

It goes over the storied history of magic mushrooms, LSD, and other psychedelics; the effects the (racially motivated, not science minded) War on drugs had not only on sociopolitical circles but on medical science, and even speaks of Polland's own experiences.

The bottom line is, for most people, magic mushrooms are not dangerous. It does come with risks if you don't know what you're doing, but with any research and a healthy approach, they're not dangerous.

If you're not comfortable with the fact this gal enjoys things like that, just let her go.

You're not compatible. You're someone who believes old-school government propaganda and she's somehow who would prefer to explore for herself.

actually i did find a book on drugs at a yard sale a couple weeks ago from the 60's , called drugs on the college campus by helen nowlis, it talks about LSD and stuff like that and the early history of drug use as it came out in 1969 .

but i agree that i'm concerned if she's that into drugs our friendship won't work i'm just not that interested in taking substances that create such effects on a person , thats never been my thing , i'm never even like smoked ciagrettes yet alone been interested in things like LSD or mushrooms

it all doesn't make a lot of sense to me to be entirely honest , guess for a 20 something girl to be into drugs isn't unsual , i just seem to be having a hard time viewing her personally as that type of person

we did generally get along well at the pub , its possible they though i was also into this scene and surprised that i'm not really at all interested. there seems to be some kind of misunderstanding , i had told her once about an experience i had at a concert when i was over tired and out of it , she seemed to think i was doped up but just naturally not there

i don't think drugs are her true personality , i have a hard time understanding why someone like her with so much going for them in life would feel the need to turn to drugs for whatever reasons? and just not entirely sure its safe , is so many people who overdose here from hard drugs and street drugs often aren't what they claim to be , even if she thinks its one think it could contain something else even in small amounts

Okay, dude, you need to read Polland's book. That book from the 60s definitely put weird thoughts into your brain.

Humans have been using hallucinogenics and psychedelics for years.

It only became criminal with the War on Drugs and that was racially motivated, not based on actual science.

Psylocibin is the next forefront of medicine when it comes to anxiety, depression, and other mental illnesses. There's studies across the world that are finally reclaiming what was destroyed in the 70s by governments afraid the counterculture movement would endanger war efforts.

LSD was originally discovered by a very intelligent chemist searching for a vaccine.

Psylocibin mushrooms have been used as spiritual aids and guides for thousands of years by indigenous cultures.

Things like weed and shrooms are actually less medically dangerous than alcohol. Weed, for example, does not kill anyone. You cannot die from taking too much - you might freak out, might vomit, but you won't die. Alcohol can kill you.

I agree that street drugs are bad news. Which is why I work legally within the cannabis industry. But good plugs do exist, and chances are good this lady knows how to stay safe.

Drugs can enhance one's enjoyment of life and some conditions can be greatly improved by it.

Again, Polland's book will help you learn a lot of more science-based and modern facts about these substances. And you would probably find it quite enlightening.

Polland is a brilliant writer as well, and genuinely I think you'd enjoy reading his work.

i know the risk of overdose from marijuana or magic mushrooms is extremely low , so if she's only using those 2 drugs there isn't much risk of an overdose

although realistically people who do drugs tend to do a wider variety especially when high or drunk , i've seen her really drunk before so yeah if she's that drunk you think she'd be worried about what drug she's taking?

and most in there 20's tend to experiment with things like that which is why i'm not sure i really believe her drug use is limited and hasn't already expanded to other things.

i haven't read that entire book yet , sort of flipped through it a bit , talks about how the drug war started years ago and goes into detail about some of the drugs used back then , not sure how much about mushrooms is in it , was a lot about lsd. i recall back in 2019 was a conversation about lsd among staff at the restaurant where she works and word was a lot of them wanted to try it , not sure she did but would assume she has by now

You seem to have preconceived ideas about this. Just because she's in favour of this drug/experience, doesn't mean she's irresponsible or "a druggy" or something.

Why do some like it? Because it's a visual and mental and emotional experience that cannot be had in any other way (other than maybe having a very, very, intense fever - but who wants to be sick to have enlightenment.) It makes people happy, giddy, entertained, a bit confused, and sometimes enables realizations, i. e. enlightenment about one's life.

If you are firmly against it, then go your separate ways. But if you can find it in yourself to be open to listening to what she enjoys about it, finds beneficial, then you may too find your mind expanded.

well part of the reason for asking this question was to get a better understanding of what is going on here and perhaps i do somewhat.

not saying i think she's a druggy for smoking marijuana and doing mushrooms but they still are drugs and it just doesn't seem like the girl i though i knew for her to be doing this when i'm not around

i have zero interest in doing mushrooms with her , if she's that determine to do them then so be it , i obviously can't tell her what to do and she needs to experience more of life to determine what her future will look like

That's fine and it's your prerogative.
Just try to remember that many believe it is not up to the government to govern inside peoples' homes. And not all drugs are equal. Psilocybin, like marijuana, is not associated with violence. It's chill. It's not activating like cocaine, etc. She may just want to see some pretty visuals, and think and talk about life.

true many no longer support the war on drugs , although when there are drug busts here there is people who are glad they got the dealers. weird i can't recall anyone being arrested for selling mushrooms here in years yet there seems to be a lot of them around so the people who sell them don't seem to ever get caught unlike cocaine or fentanyl

there was a murder here about 20 years ago , the killer stabbed someone when high on mushrooms , not typically associated with crime but has been incidents over the years

There are people who just like to go on trips by using hallucinatory drugs.
But stuff like crack, cocaine, meth and etc is definitely off the charts and not right.
With the right mindset, people use hallucinatory drugs once in a while to relax which I understand. I know a few people who do it for fun and they live perfectly normal, happy and healthy lives.

i'm not entirely sure what she's into , it seems like people around here who get interested in drugs tend to use marijuana first when there like in high school then get into other things.

some of the people i knew from high school who first used pot eventually got into cocaine and oxycontin and even fentanyl when it started to get more common

at this point no evidence she's into hard drugs but she's into drugs so it wouldn't exactly be shocking if she has tried something else
