Refuse to hang with an LGBT girl?

An aqu. asked me to get a drink with her next Sat. night. She's a single gay girl does that means she wants me? The message said this. "Hey, Kelly wanna get together next Sat. night and grab a drink? I was just gonna go solo but figured I ask you bc you seem pretty cool and also you're local to me." Now she knows my cousin who is also gay. He's a leader in our LGBT community group. So that's how I know her bc I go to all the events and I go up and talk to her. She is VERY aware I'm straight. So am I overthinking this? Plus I made myself sound older as joke in my profile. I'm 28 actually.

From the way she phrases the question and the fact that you know each other indirectly through another person that is in that community, there are good chances that she is aiming at getting at you.

She is not a regular friend of yours and I would also find it bizarre and odd that someone that I only know remotely would invite me for a drink. It sounds to me as if she wants to know you a little more.

If you are straight, then yes, it may sound as if she may be interested in you. The question is: Does she know you are straight?

It could also be that the request to join her for a drink is totally innocent or that she may want to know someone you know by questioning you.

You can still go but just make sure that you set the record straight when you give her your answer so that there is no potential confusion or misunderstanding.

While I realize ghosting and other similar methods have become the social standard, I would go. It never hurts to have another friend, and she seems to be a very nice person looking for quality company. If you are concerned that she is interested, any well adjusted person would accept that you are not interested with grace and dignity. A dear friend of mine is a homosexual and I am heterosexual. He and I get together as often as we can to talk and cook up our latest crazy ideas. That’s our common ground, and we’d have never known had we not hung out that first day. Homosexual does not equal sexual crazed/addict.
