Why does my friend who is also my coworker talk loud with her friends but talk very low to customers? Does she have fear of customers?

Maybe not a “fear” of them but typically people are more open and comfortable around their friends and don’t feel the need to be that way with strangers.

She's probably just being polite. Customers don't want to be yelled at.
