Ugh girl, I can totally relate to having a manager who treats you different than others, it's so annoying! A couple things you could try:
- Pay close attention next time you see her letting other employees chat and take note of specifics - who, what time, how long. That way if she calls you out again, you can calmly say something like "But yesterday so-and-so was talking for 10 minutes and you didn't say anything." Having facts makes it harder for her to deny.
- If it continues to be a problem, ask to speak with her 1:1 and lay it all out. Use "I feel" statements like "I feel frustrated when I'm told to keep working but see others standing around." Stay polite but firm that the double standard isn't cool.
- As for hovering when you're working, politely but directly tell her "I appreciate you wanting to help, but I've got it under control here." If she keeps at it, you may need to hint at going above her head if it doesn't stop.
Ultimately don't let her get to you - her bad attitude isn't a reflection of you! Stay focused on doing your job well and hopefully she'll back off. You got this girl!
I'm not going to tell you what you should, only what I would do.
I'd go in, keep my head down and do my hours, but any spare time I had, I would search for something better. Once I found it, I'd wave bye bye to her!
Be the employee who does their job and doesn't mess around. Don't give them a reason to nitpick you. Ask the manager if there is anything else you can do. Offering removes the laser focus.
