It seems like men think that women are dressing up just to seek their attention. When in reality we are usually dressing a certain way for comfort, fashion and or to feel good about ourselves. Very rarely has anything to do with seeking attention from men.
Just depends on how she presents herself as a person , if she is the kind of girl that barely dresses up then suddenly she does, it means she is trying To feel good about herself by seeking attention and validation she more than likely has an insecurity about herself and wants to draw attention to herself , she wants guys checking her out she wants guys buying her drinks she wants to feel accepted and attractive. if a girl dresses sexy all the time usually it means she already feels confident in herself she knows she’s beautiful and she knows she draws attention and more than likely gets her way , so bottom line most girls want to be considered beautiful , that’s what society has forced girls into believing that the only way she is accepted , is to look a certain way, so most girls use it as their advantage and some girls don’t even realize they are beautiful , usually once a girl meets a man that she gets into a relationship with she kind of let’s herself go , she still puts effort in to be beautiful to her partner but not as much as she used to do , she eventually starts feeling like her partner doesn’t find her as attractive anymore and feels like he isn’t accepting her like he used to , especially if she gained some weight and not using make up as much , she starts to assume the worst case scenario and becomes her own worst enemy not realizing her partner still loves and adores her but she takes it as he must be he checking out other girls and sadly that isn’t the case , When a guy loves a girl he loves her no matter what , he doesn’t need space from her , doesn’t exclude her , he doesn’t stop being intimate or affectionate with her , when a guy starts needing a lot of space from his girl , that’s a red flag that he is more than likely up tp no good , and most girls will assume oh my man loves me and respects me and trusts me, sadly he doesn’t , if he is pulling that shit with you , When a guy loves a girl he wants her to be by his
Side as much as possible , he doesn’t exclude her from things , he didn’t get committed to be single , he commuted cuz he loves and cares about you and wants to protect you , but sadly girls don’t find this attracted she starts to feel he is insecure and he doesn’t trust her etc. And sadly that’s where you girls are wrong , A guys job is to protect and love the one that he gave his heart to not be distant from her and be selfish , When a guy is in love with a girl he becomes blind to all other girls , he might look at a beautiful girl walking by , but he isn’t going to jeopardize his relationship with you so understand how important it is for a girl to make her man her priority , Don’t choose other people over your partner or you will be digging your own grave , No relationship is perfect , but when you prioritize your partner like they prioritize you there will be no room for fire to enter your relationship, it’s called respect for each other , stop comparing, stop listening to your toxic friends and stop flirting with the opposite sex , if you want love to grow you have to prioritize your partner understand you can’t always be right and they are wrong , remove selfishness and stick to boundaries not break them
To be honest I used to think that way, but I have realized that's not true. Women dress up for themselves. What I mean by that is everyone, men included, want to look good. Looking good makes one feel good. Women want to look pretty and feel pretty, simple as that. It doesn't mean that they are looking for attention. If a woman happens to dress up for their boyfriend or husband so be it, but they're still doing it to feel good in the end.

As a male I don't get dress thinking about what women will like.
I get dress based on what I like and also what makes me feel secure (or confident if you wish to call it that). However we must admit that if we feel insecure dressed down or without makeup, it is probably because we are caring what others think (all people). And I do think a lot of people have trouble with that @Apple1996 @microj
Security is an inside job. You can use clothes to get it temporarily. The feeling of confidence or security is available to anyone at anytime. This is simply true due to the fact our nervous system or sub-conscious mind cannot tell the difference between what is real and what is imagined or not real. And if one would simply trick their nervous system over and over by pretending to act confident or simply assuming that they do actually look amazing (regardless of attire) it would eventually become habit and the nervous system would do it without conscious thought.
Honestly common sense is really not common because so few people think instead of accepting what everyone else says. The fact that most males believe women dress for men shows that they didn't think their conviction through. They aren't dumb; people just aren't thinking.

Females of any age are naturally beautyful, whether they dress-up or not, but to add something special to their beauty, they are popping out to the local shops for one more dress. Males need to dress-up to look masculine or Alfa Man.
Too true, and Iagree, I feel like I am actually doing something with the day if I am throwing on an outfit and they do not mean a suit. If I am staying in, I willl dress as if I am going out. I always loved doing that with fashion so I do not see why I should stop purchasing one more pair wholeheartedly. For me, it is such a big part of who I am. I have taken up a new hobby: a lot of the time, I will put on a funky pair of leggings and some tunes – and feel like I am in the 1980s! especially thrilling is the spirit of defiance underlying all these costume choices.

For me, it is about the fundamental need and yet the new pandemic is changing our relationships to fashion in other ways, too - particularly mask and face covers in matching designs and many more things. While some of us turned with relief to sweatpants, others have re-embraced old favourites, taking joy in what they already own. The biggest shift for me was my understanding of how much I consume, on fashion. Now, I am spending more time wearing my old clothes in different ways. I have find out two of my mum’s shopping bags a hidden treasure. They are about 30 years old and I just found myself gravitating towards pieces like that – that had sentimental value, that felt comforting. In normal times, I might not have gone for it. Seeking emotional attachment in my old clothes is happening more and more.
Dressing up is a way of reclaiming happiness regardless of outside factors. It is realising that you, as a person, even if no one else sees you, are the most important thing for you. People are getting creative with the clothes and having fun. We are asking ourselves, what really brings us joy? Sweatpants are not a sign of defeat. You lost control of your life, so you bought some sweatpants - acid-bright florals; embroidered frock coats – all in a parade of extravagance seemingly more luxurious than ever. But if fashion is meant to be a cultural signifier of its times, is not at all a bit of a fail.
I don't know if all men assume this but enough do that it irritates the F out of me. It’s to the point I’ll wear my most favorite dress up stuff at home where I’ll see no one just so I can have fun in peace. They have to at least acknowledge many women aren’t even into men—even if they can’t understand dressing up doesn’t mean it’s for someone else.
I do t like being offices at but it bothers me less if the person feels like “ well they sure it so I get to look” I mean that’s fair, and is again why I’d rather dress up alone lol anyhow, it’s far preferable to supposed to “ they wore it SO THAT I WOULD LOOK”

@CubsterShura sounds like what girls on fresh and fit said. They go to the club "to dance". Fresh asked "why don't you dance at home". They were like "you're boring". The reason is they want the attention. You may be In denial.

When I was suddenly 30ibs lighter last year I got a lotta attention. I went from a 6 to a 8… but I hated the attention!! I want to get back down to that just because it’s healthy; but it’s much more comfortable being overweight.
That being said, I also like dressing up! For me mostly. Some for my boyfriend but in all honesty I like feeling myself and would prefer if nobody else noticed (even if that’s not possible 💀) except maybe my boyfriend but he can’t tell a full face of makeup from a bare one

Sometimes I do. It's mostly that I struggle to understand why a woman would dress revealing - or even not revealing, she could be wearing tight pants and top - if it's not about getting a guy's attention. Is it to get a girl's attention if they're into that? Or to compete with other women and their styles?
I also struggle to understand how a woman would dress sexy to feel good about herself, but then not like the attention she gets for it. Maybe you can explain?
If a woman is dressing for her to feel good about herself then it's purely just for her to be confident. Doesn't mean she wants anyone looking at her/giving attention.
Like a lot of times I will dress my best on days that I'm not leaving my house/seeing anyone just to feel pretty
I see. I guess it just seems counterintuitive to me because even if it's for confidence and wanting to feel pretty, you have to know that men are going to give attention. When I go to the gym and dress a certain way some days to stand out or feel cool, I will usually get women staring or even going out of their way to do their workouts closer to me, I guess to get a better look, I don't know. I'm aware that trying to look a certain way would maybe appeal to women, but it doesn't annoy me, I just think it's funny.
I guess my thought is, if you're dressing "for yourself" be aware that men are usually going to look or even try to approach. Might seem annoying but that's usually going to be the way it goes.
Lots of women dress in revealing clothes or tight clothes because it's more comfortable for them, plenty of women with sensory issues prefer to wear shorter clothes because they don't like the feel of fabric on their skin. Likewise many have the opposite feeling and need fabric against their skin to be comfortable.
And that is just on top of the fact that some women may just enjoy certain fashionable clothing that happen to be revealing or tight. Lots of trendy clothing pieces now show a lot of skin, like crop tops and cutouts in various places, and skin-tight clothing has been popularized by the Kardashians since the 2010's and it's coming back due to Kim's clothing brand Skims. The whole concept is wearing clothing made out of stretchy material that clings to your body regardless of your shape. The advantage of this is no one has to take their time in figuring out what shape and structure of clothes they have to wear for their body type, stretchy material fits everyone so it's hard to go wrong with.

There's always a social aspect to "dressing up".
It's not always seeking sexual attention from a particular gender. It could also be to show your social status, the forms and colors that excite you, to show your personality and relate to like-minded people, to show your culture and background, your beliefs, etc.
It could also be a combination of all plus sexual attention.
One thing that I see in contemporary fashion trends is that one of the social aspects that is sexual attention (showing too much skin -boobs, ass, etc.) is getting bolder and bolder. That's a reason I usually wear older fashion styles and I also get the clothing styles I like tailored.
I think it's both. Women certainly dress for comfort, fashion and or to feel good about themselves. But some of the fashion choices (hair, makeup, heels, form fitting clothes, cleavage, etc.) are definitely intended to look provocative (as in the photo). And if someone LOOKS appealing, they are going to get looked at. I don't think most women mind being admired for their appearance.

Not really, it can definitely be the case but not all the time. Most of the time in my experience is so they can feel confident and sexy and have a great time at an event. Definitely more so projecting their inner feelings and trying to feel good about themselves at least from what I’ve seen in my personal experience
Honestly most women do dress up to seek attention. Now there may be people who say it’s to feel good about themselves or feel confident. But the question is why do you feel the need to dress revealing to feel good about yourself. What do you gain from wearing tiny scraps of fabric called dresses. Another question is why don’t you feel confident wearing just jeans and a shirt. I think the main reason some people wear revealing clothes is because they what the validation of others (females and males), complimenting them, asking them where they got the clothes from, etc. Again I may be wrong but from personal experience this is what I believe.
yes. ask a woman for the truth, and she will tell you her feet hurt from wearing the heels, she has hair challenges, the perfume got in her eyes, the earings inflame her skin, and she likes the dress because it "fits" her body. So baloney!:)

you may have a point at certain ages, when I drop off the kiddo at high school, lots of girls wearing what they rolled out of bed in, with slippers... not shoes. Clearly, they don't care what they look like... or the fashion changed.
Okay just one question, since when is high heels worn for comfort? I ask because most of the time when women really get dressed up they are not wearing flats or tennis shoes.
I am not saying that it must be done for someone else. I am just saying that I dress down for comfort most of the time.
You will be surprised with how high heels CAN be comfortable. Sky-high stilettos are obviously not, but a low to medium heel, depending on construction can actually provide better arch support for some women than entirely flat shoes like ballerina flats.
Of course they do, men absolutely get an aneurysm at the thought that a woman can live her life and make decisions for herself that don't involve men for once.
A lot of women dress cute and do their hair/makeup just because they enjoy the process, they enjoy the time they spend on themselves and they like looking at themselves knowing that they put the work on themselves. Like looking at your own painting and admiring the work that you have done.
I drwss myself like I dress up my video game characters. I like feeling good about the way I look, catch a glimpse of myself in a mirror or look at myself in other people's photos and love what I see. NPC's opinions don't matter, but how I dress determines how I feel and act that day, it's a physical extention of my mood and character. I just so happen to share some of my aesthetic appeal with men and women, cause obviously my tastes can never be uniquely my own.
I assume there's a whole list of reasons women dress up- to feel confident, to look professional, to fit in, to stand out, and included in that list is also sometimes to seek attention

"In reality", as you said, how could there NOT be some times when a woman does that, since they admit to doing it themselves? It will vary by age and situation as well. Women tell me they dress in a way they like and think makes them look good. Some men will like their choice of dress, some won't. For the most part, women tell me they don't care what the guy thinks.
That said, there are times when a woman will dress specifically to get attention because that's what she wants, right then and now. I think it's rare to find a woman who has "never" dressed without someone else in mind, at least once in their dating life.
I think men generally know women don't solely dress up to get men's attention. I think the confusion comes in when women go out into the world and the don't want men to look. That's super confusing cause men are primarily super visually attracted, I won't stare but I'll steal glances, just don't make a face of disgust at me cause I caught you looking sexy.
No, it is far deeper than you realize. Our society has mixed up dressing up to look nice and dressing up to be seductive. Many women therefore think they are doing the former when they are actually doing the latter. And in some deep unconscious part of our minds, we feel like she is only dressing that way because she wants us. In our heads and hearts we know it isn't true, but that reptilian brain feels otherwise. And it's perspectives can bleed over into our behavior if we are not careful.
Only thing I expect is for my girlfriend to feel comfortable in what she's wearing. She could be in a oversized snow suit and she'll have my attention. If she wears a top that shows off her cleavage a lot and she gets attention from others, I'd feel like, that's my girl yep she's mine all mine... lol
We dress for both. I can’t stand when women say we don’t do both. When you go on a date, you aren’t guilty of dressing nicely to impress him? Or when we do dress a little with skin out , don’t you hope to get a little compliment by a guy? It’s flattering. Maybe we don’t want their attention beyond the compliment, but even if it weirds me out it’s still flattering in a sense.

Clothes are for style for oneself and for others as well and clothes definitely do identify who you are as a person. @Apple1996 or wanting to impress your spouse is pretty normal and makes the relationship more interesting. And being pretty has nothing to do with dressing up. Actually dressing up makes you even more prettier. I don't know why women have such a hard time admitting it can be for both, doesn’t mean we want to be sexually assaulted or deserve it, but most women are flattered to receive male attention

There is nothing wrong with people letting themselves go in a realtionship. It means they are comfortable with their partners.
Looks only matter to people that care about them. All the rest of us are living in reality and know that looks change over time. Even with me not being old yet I've changed how I look every year cuz of having so many babies. It's just apart of life. Nobody can stay their best looking self forever and their partners should learn to love them and not for their looks
@Apple1996 there’s a difference between aging and letting yourself go. Just because you think looks don’t matter, doesn’t mean your partner doesn’t, so you are speaking on your partners terms. This is why people do not like being in long term relationships either now a days. You think people stopped what they were doing back then once they found the love of their life? They kept going because people like keeping around the person that stayed their true self since the very beginning. Looks do matter. Does it mean you can’t ever dress in sweat pants and messy hair? No, but gaining a crap ton of weight and such isn’t healthy unless pregnant or something serious.
My partner doesn't care about looks or clothes so yeah speaking for him too since we feel the same. I wouldn't be with someone who cared about looks when I don't. Probably best everyone finds someone that matches their opinions on that
And still nothing wrong with gaining weight either. Some people need to gain weight to be healthy. It's not okay to body shame by thinking that gaining weight is a bad thing.
@Apple1996 I’m majoring in dietetics, I know how that works, however we all know what I’m referring to when I say gain weight. Aging is normal , getting comfortable and forgetting to care for yourself is not. Why? Because that also dives into personality as well. It shows that once you are with someone you no longer care about yourself, so at that point it’s beyond looks. Just because your partner doesn’t inch at when you try to dress up, doesn’t mean he doesn’t care about looks.

But side note, if your man didn’t agree with you, what would you have done? I’ve worked at a strip club also before. Majority of clients there are married men. Why? Because they want beautiful women that take care of themselves and continue to do so. It’s natural instinct. Imagine your man presenting you with something whether it be looks or something else from the very beginning and after time he just stopped because he got comfortable. Wouldn’t that make you feel some kind of way? Think about your favorite thing he has done for you since day one
I wouldn't say that strippers take care of themselves or even look/dress nice 😂 but sure married men go there since they don't have wives that put out. Not so much cuz of how their wives dress.

Caring about looks AND personality is not selfish. The way a person presents themselves does say a lot about their personality. If you let go of yourself because you are in a relationship and got comfortable, it says a lot about your personality.
Eh my sis in law is a stripper and is the most frumpy person that I know so hard for me to believe that. Also a lot of wives let themselves go cuz they are busy putting in work for their husband's/kids so I don't blame them for being sexless, letting themselves go.
It just says that they are comfortable with that person. I don't see it as a bad thing to be that comfortable with a partner. Like I said before tho I've been with my husband since high-school and wasn't exactly dressing nice/put together back then and I'm still no different now. So not something that's a issue in my personal relationship.

Getting comfortable is 100% bad if you are relying on a person being there as a trade off to caring about yourself. It’s simple. Not trying to shame , but if he accepts you dressed down all the time, that explains a lot, but that can change. Appearance is a factor in relationships and I don't know why people downplay it. We see with our eyes before we approach almost anything. Would you eat an apple that physically looks rotten , or would you go for the apple that looks appealing and physically looks more nutritious?

The examples you give are not in any way universal to women. And dressing artistically is absolutely something people do for themselves just like a painting no one will see. I put the most effort in my dress when I’m alone and the thought that I give to people laying attention is what makes me not dress how I’d prefer. if you like blue & wear the color blue you would not automatically say it’s to impress someone, it gives you pleasure. Same with clothing.
And I’m not saying no one dresses to impress, many people obviously claim to. There’s no purpose in insisting oriole who do not claim to are lying.
Women and men insisting women are not honest bc they saw some woman in something revealing is completely disconnected. We are all different people and as for that woman maybe it was hot or she liked the style and doesn’t think skin is something to hide. No thing is absolutely “ this one reason bc I say so” people are different and have different motivations to each other. Well, there are so many women that are half naked online, for likes. So regardless of your reasoning, the majority of women dress up for men. Otherwise you'd be dressed up alone in your homes, and thats obviously not the case. It's normal to feel better about yourself when someone finds you attractive. We are literally built to be attractive to one another.
No, certainly we do not. Many men are surprised, though, when some women express exasperation that their dress has attracted attention. It seems some people are under the impression that their intention should be considered as a factor in other peoples’ reactions; which is not realistic.
Yes that is true. Women can wear things as a form of expression. Just because a girl wears a mini skirt doesn't always mean she seeking attention. Maybe thats her fashion style and as you said "for comfort, fashion and or to feel good"

Forgive me for being the asshole that assumes it's coming from attention. The attention that is easily got from normal men and maybe some women with the inclination.
I don't know about you... but dressing for confidence for me is warm in the snow or being pretty much bulletproof in a firefight in combat. If I'm shirtless with short shorts on in the snow... you better believe I'm just confident in getting one type of attention. Just saying. ... and yet it's still for attention and serves no other utilitarian purpose.
I dont think women dress up in public "JUST" for themselves. It could be one of the reasons but I think its cap when they say its only for themselves. If that was the case then why not just dress up in your own house and admire yourself there? I also dont see anything wrong with dressing up to get attention and people do it all the time which is fine.
It makes you feel good because your brain is rewarding you for engaging in behavior that attracts men, which has obvious benefits for natural selection. It may not be your deliberate intention, and it's certainly not the ONLY reason you do it, but it's very much a part of it.
Just because she dresses up doesn’t mean she is out to try and find a man or seeking a man’s attention. Who doesn’t like to look good when they go out? It makes you feel better and is a confidence booster. She can look for a man in sweat pants and a hoodie and do just find more than likely, if she has a great body she probably works hard for it and might want to show it off a little, doesn’t mean she plans on cheating or is seeking attention but should also realize what kind of attention that may draw

People can dress how they want and that's fine, I myself have a bit of a unique dress sense, at least in the gym.
I do it for myself, because I wear what I personally like, it's just that when you wear certain things, you need to understand that people will stare and say things sometimes - I myself experience that a lot with my own appearance, so you do have to understand that we live in the real world too.

I would say yes but I would say differently it: Women choose clothes to get noticed, not only by men but also by women. I think the thesis that women dress for attention is wrong yes but I think that other at least single women want to be seen by what in the outfit they wear but I wouldn´t say that´s not the sole purpose why they chose an outfit.

Women dress up for a variety of reasons, chief among them to look better than other women. It's not just for men, though we guys do appreciate when a woman dresses up to look god for us.
I know sometimes they do and other times they dont. See that's the confusion. Its like the boy who cried wolf. And it only takes the majority to ruin the image for everyone else. I agree with the very rarely part. Rare is like less than 1% of the time. I can prove many examples of women seeking attention.
I mean yeab but I mean c'mon. And this used to be among teens but now this sort of trend is popular among for age groups. I mean that's exactly what clout is. And I am being fair here men seek attention too. Bottom line is if you wear clothes like that unless your going for a job interview or for your partner your most likely then doing it for attention. It would be the same if I wear a $100k Rolex watch I am clearly doing it for attention. There are just some things that are obvious.
A lot of men have this mindset that everything is done for their benefit, when obviously it isn't.
We can not paint with one brash to everyone, every individual is different.
My girlfriend and her mom wear as fashion trend andcomfortable, as well as occasionally attending party and functions for attention seeking.
I like my girlfriend get attention seeking from others, I compliment and encourage her, I proud of my girlfriend.

Or why do you spend so much time thinking about wearing "the right" dress or "the right" outfit and thinking about what "the right" amount of make-up is.

There are certain clothes and outfits that are designed to capture a man's interest and attention. Also, I'm reasonably certain thong panties are not comfortable. So they serve no purpose other than to make men excited when seeing a woman wearing them. Low-cut tops and bottoms are made to catch a guy's interest as well as sheer clothing. So, no not all clothing worn is to attract men, but women do choose to wear clothing to attract men.
Considering how women dress when they're at home, they definitely don't dress up for themselves or to "feel beautiful" lol.
They do it to look beautiful. For who, I'd guess men, but probably for other women too.

You ladies have been convinced to fight a psychological war against yourselves. What does "fashion" mean? If everyone ignores you when you get dressed up, does that make you feel good about yourself?

I don't think women dress up for men unless it's like a very specific case like a date or something. But there I'd assume that both parties would dress to impress.
I am speaking as to my own experiences, and I have sisters so, and this is for teens only. Normally the girls who dress hot at school are looking for a boyfriend or a date, the girls who are in sweats, t shirts and all covered up have boyfriends. It's like a mating call. Maybe when I am older it will change.
I actually prefer to think women dress for themselves. It makes me feel less guilty that I don't pay much attention to my appearence. Plus I can hope that if i marry a woman she won't just say, I have my man I don't feel like dressing up anymore.
It could be one of the main reasons but there are more reasons than just for attention
Sometimes they feel more comfortable, like feeling sexy, like to dress up in a cute dress and put make up on, and girls like to dress up together with there girlfriends for a girls night out going dancing or go out the club.
I do not think this is a clear Yes or No.
1. Most guys realize that most women do not have that as their primary objective.
2. Some guys will think that way even if she's wearing a Muumuu.
3. Some women do dress, at least sometimes, to get men's attention.
4. Designers often create styles that accentuate features that are more likely to catch the attention of the opposite sex, so even if that is not her intention it might have very well been the intention of the label.

Well you do know- if you ask a woman and she tells you. No reason for any of us to assume we know someone’s intent just bc we know their chromosomes, same with men. I think the problem is in expecting to understand one uniform motivation for billions of different people. it’s not realistic. I’m not sure why it’s a common saying that women are mysterious. Anyone is unknown till you know them.

If they didn't dress up for attention from others, they would dress up just the same when staying home all day too. That is logical thought/reasoning.

Women usually dress-up for other females. When Charlie's Angels was on TV it was found that it attracted more females than males. Odd. T and A on the tube was more for female benefit tha

I don't see a lot of women dressing up in public. So, if it's for the attention of men I guess they didn't get my attention.

Some women have to dress up for their work and actually a woman looking beautiful in a dress more than just casual I mean a lot of jobs demand it
I think a lot of girls do despite what they say. It may be that girls dress to please themselves at looking good and for fashion but that is almost exactly the same thing :)

Women's fashion is dreadfully uncomfortable and I can't relate to dressing up just for myself. If I'm going through the trouble to put on formal clothing and really make myself look nice, it's not just so I can look at myself in a mirror.
I think women dress up just to feel good, and maybe even compete with other females
