“Women and children first” is something called the Birkenhead drill. It has no basis in maritime law and is not actually used in real emergencies.

Look up the Costa Concordia disaster. There was no “women and children first” rule in place during those evacuations. In modern day it’s common to simply help the most vulnerable (elderly, injured, children, etc) evacuate first then goes everyone else.

The Birkenhead drill does not presuppose that women are better than men. It’s based on the fact that a society of 20 women and 1 man is far more likely to survive than a society with 20 men and 1 woman. This is because a single woman can only have a child once every 9 months while there is virtually no limit to how often a man can impregnate a woman.

20 children every 9 months gives a higher chance of survival then 1 child every 9 months. Even if that 1 child has an army of men to protect it.

So if the last of humanity were on that boat, women and children should go first. Otherwise, quit worrying about it because it’ll never happen.

My definition of a gentlemen is a man who puts others before himself or is at least inherently kind, humble, and understands that other people are just as important as him. Do you know that forcing somebody to be a hero is not alright. After few men survived Titanic some wives left them and society scorned them because they had audacity to save themselves. Truly great! Are you going to give us an example of where “women and children first” was applied since the early 1900s? It doesn’t happen. The Birkenhead drill is a relic of the past. Again you need to catch up. In any evacuation scenario, it’s pretty simple: whether you’re man or woman, render assistance to those who need it. People like the disabled, the injured, small children, and the elderly. Feminism, chivalry, sex has absolutely nothing to do with it.
