Why do women rarely compliment their boyfriends?

Mostly backfiring when they try to, I'd imagine- most guys get compliments so rarely, they don't really know how to respond, and either assume they're being mocked, or just mumble a half-hearted "thanks".

Unless a given woman is a superhero, she can't change society by herself overnight.

I used to have a very kind friend who would avoid complimenting me at any cost and I used him as an editor so he was familiar with my academic work, he thought complimenting people was bad for their mental health because it made them arrogant and lazy and egotistic. The bible actually says, not to compliment people if you think it will corrupt them. It uses different words, but that’s what it says.
