About a year ago, my wife got a promotion at her job. She is in charge of personnel at a larger company and at times has to terminate people. In the last two weeks she had to fire two older guys due to "lacking minimal performance required under new set standards". Each time she came home laughing and bragging because she "made them cry like babies and they were begging for their jobs back". I asked why she enjoys it so much, her reply, "I just think it's funny. These big tough guy's crying and begging me not to fire them". I think she is actually becoming insane! And I'm not B. Sing. she constantly makes comments about guys she doesn't like. Comments like, "if he worked for me, I'd have him crying in a week". Do you think this is normal? Girls, is this how you would behave in a position of power?
Not normal. Your wife is in HR for the wrong reasons and it's folks like her that made me leave the industry.
That said, black and dark humour are coping mechanisms in HR.
I've certainly had several interviews where my coworkers and I swap incredulous stories and laughs about the worst/weirdest/strangest interviews.
I've laughed at an old man who once applied for a communications position, but he got upset that the two people interviewing him were younger women. He told us five mins in that he "wasn't used to sitting on this side of the table", and that he wasn't used to "young girls like you having power over him".
We thanked him and told him he was free to leave. There was no point in continuing: the hiring manager for the position was a younger woman and so was the person the position reported to. There was no way this salty old man was going to work. He was a lawsuit waiting to happen, so we protected the company and the hiring manager.
Other times, you just have bizarro shit happen. Like a person who applied for another communications position by making her resume into a magazine-like layout. Very unique and cool, but they didn't put their contact info anywhere and the cover was a strange and slightly sexual photo of the applicant with a horse.
Your wife has a lot of anger towards men. That's not necessarily a mental illness, nor is it necessarily indicative of unwarranted cruelty.
Those men may seriously have been slacking. And cutting slackers does feel good.
It is indicative of a bad manager and HR professional that she wants to reduce employees to tears, though. Tears aren't the goal and she's bound to fuck up and get sued if she keeps going.
Are men in her company exceptionally bad or gross, though? Cause some tradies really are worth making cry.

wow... not sure. I've seen firings and usually there is some empathy. I think after a while dealing with humans... when factoring in the legal stuff that has screwed most, ya get sick of them and start to despise them, enjoy power over them and creating misery. People dealing with unions even more so.
That be evil... e. g. selfishness and lack of empathy, which I'd say is normalized.
So yea, I think something is wrong with her emotionally... she's been hurt and taking it out on others.
I've not seen male or female act like that. But I've seen people do evil things at work to people under cover of policy. HR is not a nice group of people, they are often... wicked...
Is this the first you've seen of this behavior with her? How long have you been married?
