No idea what is masculine in such a situation. The fact that the situation existed makes me worry. Like, any form of abuse should be avoided.

I wouldn't like him to "return" the slap, because it would be going as low as this woman did. Probably "please don't do it again" and leaving her alone, to give her time and space to rethink her actions, would be sufficient to solve the problem. But it's guessing... I wouldn't look at it from "masculinity" perspective, I'm more interested in decency and efficiency.

Grab her wrist mid-slap, look her dead in the eyes for a second and let her go. No pain, no threats, just a very simple way to assert the fact that you're a man and she doesn't want to pick a fight with you.

That sounds good on paper but you still have to ask yourself, what would cause a grown women to want to pick a fight she has no chance of winning.
The reason is the system. If your a girl and you know your gonna get the guy in trouble no matter what you do, any threat that the man makes is empty at the end of the day.

Like for instance doing slavery time white women would sleep with black men, and just say they we're raped because they could bare the social shame. And if people would automatically believe the women in that society then there's pretty much nothing you can do.

Most people know that if girls don't face consequences for assaulting men, then what reason do they have to stop.

Parents just don't tell their kids don't hit people, no if they don't listen, you show them consequences and let them know that the behavior won't be tolerated. Women have no sucg incentive.
