Shy girl doesn't say much more than hi and how are you?

I have a crush on a female coworker of mine. We're both abit shy but we regularly greet eachother, usually saying hey with a smile, maybe asking how are you.

Problem is, aside from her showing interested by a warm greeting, she's doesn't seem that interested in further conversation when we've got the chance to, and she generally sits on her phone and avoids eye contact, but she'll still say hello/bye and ask about me when i ask about her.

Why is this? is it just because she's shy? is she interested or not?

Yeah she could be shy. If you're the only one she greets warmly like this she probably likes you. If she is like this with everyone then it's more difficult to know.

Show interest in her yourself and then it will be easier to tell how she feels. You could ask her if she wants to get lunch with you, add her as a friend on social media if you haven't already done so and maybe message her now and again or try initiating conversations with her when you greet each other.

I think she only does greet me like that, she probably greets other coworkers as normal but not like she greets me, with a smile and enthusiasm. We are friends on facebook, and we've had a few conversations there. There's been abit of small talk at work too though.

Then if that's the case I suggest trying to move to the next stage and making your interest in her more obvious. Also, start to move things beyond small talk and try to have conversations that last a little bit longer/ask her more about her interests.

I think perhaps you're going to have to try and talk to her about something other than hello and goodbye to see if she opens up a bit.
