Honestly? I f you actually manage to find a guy you really like and he is messaging you then yes you are crazy to leave him on read!!

But you’re scared and fear makes us do some truly crazy things at times. Life is too short to allow your fears to dictate your choices, trust me you will only regret it if you don’t reply to him and regret just eats away at you.

If you really are worried though, just go carefully to begin with and try to just take it one step at a time. Don’t rush into things if you’re not comfortable and don’t trust where trust hasn’t been earned. I’m not saying drag things out unnecessarily, just go a little cautiously and if you feel i you’re comfortable doing so, then tell him how you feel. If he’s a good guy and really likes you too, he should be understanding.

I find it odd behavior. If I don't reply it's usually because I'm unsure of what to say or am busy/doing something else at the moment. But I wouldn't keep leaving him hanging otherwise he might get the misunderstanding that you don't like him. And if you like him and want to date him, you should keep replying to him to keep interest. These days with online/digital stuff, it's easy to move on and find someone else. I don't think so... but it actually depends. If it's unilateral - like, if you're the only interested person, or if you're not sure that he feels the same way -, it's a good move. You don't want to look desperate/too interested, they might hate that. Unfortunately, men be playing that sort of game

He'll definitely think that you don't like him. I get how you feel because sometimes I get nervous too when I really like a guy, but it's better to face the situation than to hide. It's also his feelings, and if he feels you're ignoring him or playing then he'll just move on.
