I don't understand why women are so difficult if their being friendly or not?

I dont understand why women are so difficult to read if their being friendly or not. My coworker was hot before and after my breakup, and now she went cold on me. Now, she completely ignores me and completely puts me out of existence. From the past few days, I've been trying to figure out what should I do with her and I'm now friends with her younger son, who is also my coworker who works in the same department as me. My situation is indeed touchy in inky waters. Both of us (me and the mother / coworker) get little awkward when we're both around each other.

I could ignore her but still keep it at professional levels so I can continue my new friendship with her son and when I'm around her I'll be sure not to chase her like I did with my deceased best friend's sister because that lesson was learned years ago. I'm not going through that again.

Back to my question. I don't understand women are so difficult if their being friendly or not.

Sounds like before the breakup she was all friendly because she felt secure that she knew you weren't interested in her given you were in a relationship with someone. Now that you aren't she might be wanting to keep it professional as you put it because she doesn't want you to misinterpret her friendly attitude for something else. See... thats the problem. A lot of guys take the slightest compliment or friendly gesture as we are interested in going out and want something more than friends. We feel a lot safer and willing to be friendly when the guy is in a relationship because it is perceived that he wouldn't be interested.

It's honestly my best guess why the change in behavior. There is one common denominator which is you were in a relationship and then not.

It's hard to explain the coworker behavior. She used to say hi to me a lot and She tried starting a conversation with me after the breakup, and I was too busy working when she tried talking me. Perhaps I've did misinterpreted her.
