Why do some girls complain that guys mistake friendliness for interest? Why do they tell everyone they rejected a guy?

Normally, you are not into someone because you think they are into you. Or maybe girls are more likely to be into a guy only because he likes them. And if they are supposedly so repulsed by the guy that they didn't even give him a first date chance, why do they tell everyone the guy likes them and say with pride that they rejected him?
