Why is dark skin considered less attractive especially on women?

The general view in the society is that dark skinned women are less desirable, less attractive. Why is this so and what's your personal opinion on women with dark skin?

It's not, it's the personality we were exposed to that influences perception of that person. I was traumatized by "BLACK" girls in school by their attitudes and behaviors. They were the essence of awful. There were some nice and decent black girls, but I had to overcome the early pain to see that.

Dark is perceived different than light... whether paint on the wall or skin. Light recedes and dark closes in. Maybe there is something there... or culturally with how the west views "white" as pure and good and black as "bad". Middle East culture reverses that.

For long time when I was young, the girls woud put on taning oil... not sun screen... oil to bake their skin... to look darker. Darker was in... not sure it is now, which is related probably to how much cancer those people got.

I am not attracted to women but I dislike the unfair treatment of darker women.

There are beautiful fair skinned, tan, and dark women. Women are all so beautiful no matter the ethnic background.

In short, the reason is racism. And on top of that, you can blame our entertainment industry, history, and books for perpetuating systemic racism and stereotypes on dark skin. There are many webs of reasons for why dark skin and certain facial features are looked down on that all lead back to racism and/or slavery.

I am a dark skinned woman and sadly we grow up being called all sorts of names. I remember being called “burnt biscuits” and “blackey” and “tar” even by boys with darker skin than me. We grow up watching tv seeing the fair skinned women be the loved ones while we are the “the help” or are used for comedic relief. We grow up believing we are automatically less attractive than lighter women. So dealing with that as little girls, we have to learn to love our skin before anyone else can because of what the world shows up at children. These are my experiences from being as young as 4 year old.

And luckily now, I can see and say that I know I’m beautiful and I have no issue meeting partners of all races that love my skin. I’m delectable lol!

I can debunk this whole stupid notion that “white skin” or “lighter tones” are more attractive… We as humanity started in Africa and judging by how there are plenty of mixed couples and lots of diversity still, clearly it is individual attraction since love / beauty is seen in the eye of the beholder. White, brown, black, Asian, indian, hispanic, whatever are all seen as beautiful to humanity. Individuals might have preferences (or will try to make this a race superiority thing for no reason), the point is we are all attractive to somebody and unattractive to somebody too. Let people be people and don’t hate them since they are people.

Don't think it is. You may have noticed that many light skinned women want a tan. I think it is more about cultural stuff and obviously culture isn't genetic so let's say two women had the same bone structure (facial features) and one is caucasian and one is black, the only thing someone can really complain about would be culture.

And I don't agree with those who think all cultures should be forced to be together/the same. The problem is a lot of people are to dumb to even identify culture (s). Maybe they are the ones most hung up on skin color. My family is pretty blended like you wouldn't believe. But 99% of us have the same cultural ideas.

The seem to find it attractive in sub-Saharan Africa. Get in where you fit in. People like what they like and that won't change in your favor regardless of how much propaganda is shoveled. The hole gets deeper with more effort... If you want to feel more attractive, move to Nigeria, Botswana, Ghana or something like that.

It's not just the dark skin that makes a girl unattractive. It's a mix of many different factors. Like the facial structure, body proportions, attitude (aggression and how feminine they are), and cultural behaviours that are associated with darker skin.

Don't get me wrong... there are attractive dark skinned girls, but they are less common because they usually don't have the best of any of the other aspects I mentioned.

Your premise is off. Maybe darker skin isn't as attractive in white European countries as light skin but in India and Africa and South America dark skin is probably considered the most attractive.

Anyone who does find it less attractive is generally from a different ethnic group and they are most attracted to the traits from their own ethnic group.

Even though Chinese people, Arabs, Japanese people and Mexicans etc are not European they still have light skin or at least definitely not as dark as Africans.

I think its mostly other reasons like different bone structure, different hair types and ghetto culture.

Like if we'd take a slavic and African woman who were apart from skin tone equally desirable then I don't think there would be much of a difference.

None of the above. Generally speaking I find the extremes more attractive.
i. e. Pale races look better even paler, dark races look better even darker.
So either pure white or pure black. Anything in-between is just diluted.
