Why do women spend so much money on handbags and their nails?

I get it and I’m okay with it. Why do they? For the same reason I prefer a decent timepiece over a Timex. The same reason I love wearing a fitted suit and bespoke shirt. The same reason I insure my hair is cut neatly and my beard trimmed. The same reason my EDC is a $2000 1911 and not a $400 Glock.


It’s the same reason men spend a ton on a Harley when a moped is the same thing. The same reason men will buy a F350 truck when a small used truck will serve the purpose. It’s the same reason men will get a dozen tattoos. It’s fun. It’s part of a self-image. It’s projecting to the world what we think is important for them to asses about us when they see us.



Because people make assessments of who you are based on available information and looks, appearance, and style are a big part of that.


Because such little luxuries in life can make one feel good about themselves, being properly fitted & kitted is a part of enjoying life.


Lastly, women are FAR more judged and assessed by their appearance than men. Not saying it’s right or wrong, unfair or fair, but it’s just how it is. For a women being put together and looking good is a more important consideration than most men can relate to.

I know from talking to women (and actually taking a moment to look up biology) wemens nails are not as stong as mens so it's a matter of selfcare to keep the nails healthy (though the nail polish actually damages them not allowing them to breath and flex), the other part is enjoyment of fashion.
The bags thing is mainly due to the fact the fashion industry doesn't give women pockets, and when they do, they are very shallow and/or dont give room for anything besides a stick of gum or a condom. So to counter this thr fashion industry pushes women to buy bags... my opinion, just buy belted hip-bags aka saddlebags. Fashionable and bigger pockets than men.

It’s not all about you guys…. Why a person does anything SHOULD BE bc it’s just the correct thing to do. Nails are part of self-care… while some women today go WAY over the top — I just asked a question about extreme nails last week — most ladies just want their hands to look nice and presentable.


As for the handbags… for me the purchase is out of necessity. My everyday bag, my work bag, a few practical totes and a couple of special occasion bags (with matching shoes). I’ll get a new one if the old one is starting to fall apart. I’m Général, buying accessories comes from a combo of functionality and the desire to feel pretty (bc it boosts our confidence a little).

for bags same reason lots of dude spend loads on shoes, designer clothes, etc it's to flex to everyone that you're rich (or more like pretend that you are). for nails, the girls who spend loads on getting sparkly gemstone cat claws every week just like nail stuff a lottt and it makes them feel like they elevate their look with that. it's like a beauty & fashion essential for them

personally i love handbags and nail stuff but i dont care about luxury bags i just like buying lots of cheap ones. most of mine cost under 15-20 euros. and for nails most of the stuff i have is from shein... i never go to nail salons either

I think it is mostly about feeling good, i personally do my nails because they last longer (i do them once a month) if i just paint them myself i have to do it almost every week also if i want to have long nails my own won't last for a long time (they brake), as of handbags and clothes i would say the same, i am someone that loves shopping and likes to look good and put together all the time as long as i can afford it and it doesn't brake me financially.

It helps me with my confidence, i think it is important to look put together (that does not necessarily mean if you have nails) but that is my kind of way to look good, also i have always loved fashion. It also kind of heals me in a way because when i was a teenager especially everyone of my friends dressed good when going out but my parents didn't have money for me to buy clothes, now i can allow myself.

They buy handbags so they can make guys hold them. They get a kick out of watching him feeling awkward, but at the same time acting nonchalant like it's no big deal.

They do nails, because they have guys to break their nails fixing their car. They also come in handy during cat fights. They paint them red. to hide the blood of that vixen they just beat up. Those nails are dangerous weapons.

Yes some women do, it’s to feel good, feminine, treat themselves, and just having fun with it. Just like guys buy many shoes, watches, and etc is totally fine and we aren’t complaining.

@msc545 Cars definitely don’t need rims and overly loud exhausts and extensions so nice try again. You also see a lot of men spending excessive amounts of money on fast cars of which they can’t even speed half of the time with. A Lamborghini is not a sustainable car. Nice try again.

Handbags and nails are cheap in comparison. Most nails cost less than $100 to get done. And most women actually don’t care about expensive handbags. But if you think a woman getting her nails done for $75 is expensive, you must really be fucked in your financial life.
