How do you deal with these people at work?

There’s this old lady whose a checker. Most the older ladies are part time semi retirees very kind and sweet. But there’s this one. She’s mean as a snake. She’s rude to customers, rude to her coworkers, she’s even rude to the managers. But they seemingly let her get away with anything. We will call her Barb (not her real name)

Barb is old. She’s bitter. She’s angry. She constantly makes mistakes. Double scans stuff, doesn’t scan stuff, doesn’t give the right cash back, the list goes on. She bags things wrong. When people complain she gets a hateful attitude.

She was pushing some karts inside the other day and hit someone with the shopping karts and she began screaming at fhem.

Dealing with people like that at work can be tough, man. Here's what I'd do:

- Try not to let her bad attitude get to you personally. Easier said than done, I know. But don't give her the power to ruin your day.

- Be polite but avoid interacting with her if possible. Don't confront her yourself - that'll probably only make things worse.

- Keep doing your job well and be patient with customers she's rude to. Maybe they'll complain to managers.

- Discuss it with your other coworkers when she's not around so you don't feel alone in dealing with her BS. Moral support helps.

- If you see her seriously mess up like mischarging someone, slip the manager a heads up after so they know to watch out.

- Ultimately the managers need to do their job and address her behavior if it's affecting work. Hopefully they won't let her keep getting away with it.

- As a last resort, you may need to think about requesting to not be scheduled when she's working if it's too much. But hopefully it doesn't come to that.

Just try to let it roll off your back man. Soon she'll retire and be someone else's problem! Hold in there.

Let me take a shot. Is “Barb” of a certain race that management won’t do something about it? Because we got a lot of “Barbs” here if it’s like our situation. Management won’t do a damn thing about it here either. Talks to the patients rude, gets in arguments w the other staff. Just rude.
