Could my dental hygienist be interested in me or was she just being nice?

Today, I woke up with excruciating tooth pain so I booked an emergency appointment at my dentist. I was seen by a hygienist I haven’t seen before.

The office was very busy, but the hygienist kept talking to me and checking on me while we waited for the doctor. One of the questions she asked me is if I had kids. No hygienist has ever asked me that. She also asked me if I had any crazy plans last weekend or this coming weekend. I don’t know why she threw the word crazy in there.

After she was done doing x-rays, she rested her hand on my shoulder and lingered for a bit. The light was still on me and she said, “Oops! The spotlight’s on you.” I replied, “I guess that makes me a celebrity.” It sounded like she was about to laugh, but she quickly covered her mouth, paused, and softly said, “That’s funny.” And grinned.

Then after they fixed my tooth, she walked me to the receptionist’s desk. She took me the long way around the office and made the excuse that it was shorter and closer to the front. I’ve been to this office numerous times over the years and I know for a fact that’s not the shorter way, but I went along with it.

As we were walking out, I see another hygienist smiling and laughing. This hygienist has never smiled at me since I started coming to this office. Were they taking about me behind my back? Then the hygienist I had walks all the way around to the other side to tell the receptionist what they’re charging me for, but she doesn’t look at me or say goodbye.

Could she be interested and just was acting weird? She seemed new so maybe she didn’t know I could walk out the other way? This situation is confusing. I go back next week for a follow up. Should I make a move? If it goes bad, at least I likely won’t have to cross paths with her until my next appointment in December.
