Why do so many black girls use wigs?

Okay I don't know if this is gonna sound like racism or messed up but according to my observations, a lot of women like or even obsess over wigs and I have noticed that for the majority there is a pattern that for the most part they are women of color, is there a piece of the puzzle my Hispanic brain is having complications seeing or knowing? Is it because their hair is for the most just thick and tangly and not easy to work with so they just rather use a wig to make it easier to change hair styles? Or something else or just legit no depth to it and black chicks just dig wigs like women in general like makeup? 🤔

Wigs for black folks are extensions for the rest. You’d be surprised how many women (and men) actually are wearing wigs/extensions now a days.

My sister does like box braids and other braids in her hair and sometimes wigs for the aesthetics. It’s fun, helps to change up her style and also keeps her natural hair protected and intact especially in the winter. Plus less maintenance since her hair is curlier than mine.

I don’t do much with my hair other than the occasional boho braids for vacations.

most celebs, black or white are usually wearing wigs or extensions. Beyonce, Nicki, the kardashibins.. they have beautiful hair under but aesthetics and peace of mind.

Basically what @electromagnetic said.

Our hair is a lot harder to manage. And if we want to grow it long we have to be careful because it's more easy for curly and coily hair textures to break while stying and stuff.

So we call it "protective styling". Whether it's cornrows/French braids, box braids, twists, wigs etc... a lot of black women use protective styles that allow us to keep our safe from breakage. Matter of fact not going crazy trying to style my hair all of the time is why my hair falls down my back when I straighten it 🙃 .

A lot of black women's hair breaks easier, it's hard for some to grow long hair. It also breaks from straightening it with heat and chemicals. Since black women's hair is so curly, they would have to grow it out forever for it to look long without any chemical straightening, and take care of it. It's easier to just get a wig or weave I guess for some. The reason I know all this is because one time I had this black girl's motor running and started rubbing her head, and she said "no no you're going to mess up my weave!" I was like "what the hell?" and she explained why black women have weaves and wigs

It cannot be seen as legitimately racist when you ask a question about social practices you observed, when it is factual like this and when you don't try to draw weird or nasty conclusions about your observations then... It's just a question about people and practices!

If such a speech of yours was seen as racist then it would be by people combining very high levels of dumbness and edginess at the same time. That would be sick, but these people exist, and they aren't that many, I hope? Lol

I once tried extension bc I can't braid my hair (can be challenging due to its straight and slippery texture, making it harder to grip and weave effectively) but never wore wigs
