We have most clueless manager ever at our pub and she won't leave?

she's basically running the place into the ground , supposedly she went to college and is really good at advertising but i see little evidence of that. she rarely posts anything to social media other than daily food posts.

they had live music there this Friday but it was promoted so poorly barely anyone came out , i actually felt bad for the singer but had to leave early cause i had a bit of a cold.

all she did to promote this singer dude was 1 single story post on instagram , not joking wasn't even anything posted around pub inadvance saying he was coming out this weekend. and this bar doesn't seem to use actual facebook page anymore or have a website so that post was it. she didn't even bother to make an actual post which would of stayed on instagram longer than the brief story post that just disappears after view

and she walked around the bar in advance with this smerk of her face so happy that place was going to be packed tonight only thing was my 10 30 it was pretty obvious night was a flop and no one coming out , it didn't really get very busy at all. i can't believe she was surprised place not busy , if i was manager i would not be surprised at all night flopped when it wasn't even promoted much at all and was no drink specials or anything either last night to bring people out , in this economy you need some specials to get people to spend on stuff like this

after a failed Friday night that didn't meet expectations she returned to instagram with yet another food post , like seriously 100's of pictures of sandwiches and soup ain't bringing people into the bar Saturday night , i follow a lot of bars/restaurants on insta and never seen this many food posts from 1 place its crazy

looked through google reviews in more detail , majority positive but the negative ones really upset at service and place in general. ( 100 ) 5 star but many had no details why , ( 29 )4 star , ( 23 ) 3 star , ( 15 ) 2 star and ( 21 ) 1 star some commented they wished they could of given zero

also appears a server might of been fired about a month ago for giving racist service to a south Asian family who left a review and specific complaint about her , i haven't seen her there since or why

she is still there unfortuently seems to be entering worst case scenario where she stays until point that there is literally nothing left. i didn't go in for a few weeks ( mid oct - until mid Dec ) and appears some of the servers left during that time, used to be this blonde girl who worked there but she is no where to be found. owner also appears to be losing it , staff talking about how he ruined the cash box after it jammed he then like smashed it with a crow bar and now they have a new box

its now entering the realm of complete bizarre , been virtually no hiring of new servers for the busy summer season other than 2 girls who are friends with an existing server. and its not even clear who is back this summer or not and some of them only have weekend hours as they have jobs during week now instead.
but craziest thing is manager is claiming they cannot get twisted tea anymore , glass bottles aren't available here at moment but cans are so why not just buy the cans?

thats what i can't figure out , why is owner keeping her on for so long? he must be losing money on these failed bar nights.

maybe he was hoping she'd leave on her own terms without him having to take steps to remove her which could be messy right? but she's choose to stay despite place not being as busy as it was when she first started to work there years ago before covid

i'm pretty sure she was a server before covid so summer 2017-19 maybe and then some how for some unknown reason she became manager during covid 2020 despite having no experience at all running a business or bar.

and despite this hiring being a disaster owner will not get rid of her or see why she is harming the business

i also found her resume online , she had an old page on one of those job search sites. it said she went to community college for " advertising " and works some jobs after in a real estate office and ad agency

but has no experience running a business or running a bar/nightclub , her only experience before coming manager was being a server there for a couple summers before covid

yes he made an average server manager of a restaurant / bar that has over 50 employees during the summer and open 7 days a week , its crazy and makes no sense , you think he'd realise it failed and move on to someone else by now

i've had people suggest that before but from all i know definitely not , she is a married lesbian and he is dating a 30 something real estate agent despite fact he'd be mid to late 50's by now

but agree there has to be some reason he is keeping around that does not relate to her actual actions running the bar or its social media

i talked to another server at a different pub about the music thing and she agreed that 1 single story is obviously not enough to promote a live music event , clearly there needs to be more promotion so the word gets out to people

so she is doing a half ass job and knows it and owner does nothing , who in the industry would think 1 single story post on insta is good enough to promote a live music event

i have some other theroies though , like perhaps she knows something about him or business , like knows too much and worried she'll speak to someone else

or he keeps her around cause she is friends with one of the other servers ( that he likes maybe? ) and worried other girl will leave if he gets rid of her

i'm not even sure why she is staying in the job , she missed of bunch of work days the last couple months too for some unknown reason?

failing or struggling restaurants close down or are sold to new owners all the time , you think even she would realise her time at this one is nearing its end , owner doesn't have the money to keep it operating as its been for ever and even if he did why? why spend so much to keep a failing place going when he could spend it on something else?

were also entering the slow season here Oct > April is pretty slow it won't get busy again till next May , a lot of dead nights ahead

@jamesgoldman does make you wonder about the money. perhaps the money during the summer is so good it justifies the slow winter

or these " tips " from the out of town men are much better than we even realise , like how much would an out of town guy tip a super hot small town girl they though was into them? maybe its more than we realise , like $20 , $ 50 i don't know right

have wondered if the manager figured out some other way to make money on the slow days but could never figure out what it was , the owner seems to go to florida during the winter and isn't even here

@jamesgoldman it does seem like there running a " scam " but the scam is there convincing out of town men with credit cards that they were " interested " in partying with them and being friends with them in an effort to boost sales , get bigger tips and score free drinks

its not unusual for there to be women at bars looking for men to buy them free drinks cause drinks are expensive and they know there is always some guy in the bar who would buy them one

but whats weird about this bar as its not customers doing this but staff , i have a hard time thinking of any bar anywhere , that had staff doing this on this level , actually seeking out men to buy them free drinks when at work , where you think they'd already get a staff discount right?

it seems so off , a lot of bars don't even allow staff to drink when at work yet alone do this , it all seems so weird for them to be doing this

i looked through the google reviews online to see if there is anything from out of town men talking about being fooled into buying free drinks for the staff but nothing

i did find a lot of odd stuff when reading through them though

a lot of complaints from minorities about poor service , even staff treating them badly

a lot of complaints about the food or that its not a good value for money

a lot of complaints about the servers , either not caring or wanting to be there, not smiling or acting friendly when around , appearing distracted

read some of the google reviews , is positive ones but wanted to focus on negative ones as customers seem to be picking up on things there

Unbelievably Rude and Discriminatory Service

If I could give this place zero stars, I would, and it's entirely because of the disgraceful service we received from one of the waitresses. She had a tattoo sleeve and reddish hair, I don’t remember her name

From the moment she approached our table, her attitude was beyond rude. She took everyone’s order but, as I was in the middle of giving mine, she just walked away without a word. This wasn’t a one-time slip-up either—throughout the meal, she kept walking away while others at the table were speaking, making it clear she had no interest in providing basic customer service.

But what really shocked us was her blatant discrimination. She refused to serve people at our table who weren’t white, completely ignoring them as if they weren’t even there. It's appalling and unacceptable in any setting.

To top it all off, she had the nerve to start lecturing us, giving us unsolicited “life lessons” while talking down to us. It was insulting and condescending.

This was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had, and I hope the management takes serious action. No one should have to endure this kind of treatment.

( this is review that i think got the server fired as i haven't seen her there in weeks and she is still in town saw her leave a dollar store the other day )

update have not been in for a few weeks but apparently she is still there and posting food posts to instagram , google liv data still says its not busy if not empty most nights although was a few people there last night for some reason?

i didn't go in for a few weeks but on return last week this place seems ever weirder than before.

key findings

manager still there but seems to do very little work , like stands around and does nothing well the 1 and only bartender on staff does everything else

some of the servers who were there before seem to have disappeared , this blonde girl no where to be seen , she was pretty attractive but kind of shy oddly , this brunette girl also not there either. very small pool of servers like maybe only 5 girls at the moment plus manager

not with it either like on Friday there liv music person cancelled at the last minute but it was not posted to social media that he did so no one knew what was going on

owner also seems to be losing it , when i was there yesterday staff standing around talking about how they now have a new " cash box " or cash register

but reasons why were pretty odd , they said owner destroyed the old one that morning cause it was jammed and he like tried to pry it open with a crow bar then ended up smashed it to junk

they claimed he was so upset cause it was anniversary of someones birthday he knew who must of passed away but i don't by it , he is obviously upset cause business is failing and he is losing his key staff that he was obsessed with and losing money. he might even be more upset about losing the girls than losing the money
