Every city has crime, there is no real such thing as a safe neighborhood or safe place to be because anything can happen in the wrong circumstance. Is it really safe for a woman to walk alone at night? Are women too paranoid that something will happen or is there absolute truth to they should always walk with someone or not go out late?
That all depends on her knowing where she is going and where she is. Then her figuring it out by just using common sense.
As someone who lives in a city there is for sure such a thing as bad areas and good areas... if you think not then all you are telling me you've never been to a bad area before.
Don't mean something can't happen in good areas but the point it's vastly less likely.
I would say 99% of places here if you are, you'll be fine it's mostly dead. Also It's more early evening when stuff takes place. I would say the later the night is the better, 1am? Yeah no one is alive and about.
I've come back from several gigs and had to walk a mile or two even further in some cases from the city out to where my mother lives or dads and you rarely see anyone nvm someone who's going to start something with you. Though if I was on the other side of the city which has a much worse area maybe then it would be different but it's not as if my dad's area is all that good lol.
It's never 100% safe for anyone to walk anywhere at any time of the day. It's a matter of probability.
My neighborhood is about as safe as it gets for women to walk around at night. And they do. I can't remember the last time someone was attacked on the street here either day or night. It just doesn't happen in this area.
But there are lots of places in the country where a woman would be taking a very significant risk to walk alone at night. In general I think most cities would be elevated risk and some of them would be extreme risk.
Men aren't exempt from being victims of crimes when they are walking the streets either. But again as a matter of probability, women are much more at risk walking alone at night
So is it safe? What is safe? You have to define it. There is never a case where it's 100% safe, but I think it's clear that some places you can walk are much riskier than others.
As a woman, you need to always be conscious of your increased risk of assault.
It’s more dangerous for women than men to walk alone at night. Never meet someone wanting to meet you at an isolated spot. A park, late at night. I live in a big city, so areas of it are safe after dark to catch the bus home. After a night out with friends. Often my male friend escorts me home on the bus and I take the five minute walk to my place. Always be aware of your surroundings when walking alone after dark and don’t wear flashy jewellery. Zip it away in your bag.
I don't think it's safe. I made the mistake of walking alone at night a few times but I'm no longer doing that.
Sure, a crime can happen during the day but at the night it's more likely. As a woman, I don't think we're being paranoid. There's truth in it.
Nothing wrong with being cautious and even sometimes very cautious but I do think that a lot of women are being taught to be paranoid..

I've been in some very sticky situations. In fact, in one situation I was in, if I was a woman I'm pretty convinced I would have been raped.
But generally a woman wouldn't have been as stupid as I have been and walked alone in what hey, might not be the best area, but still should have been safe enough for people to walk in at night (in this case four Muslim guys approached me with some rope, for some context). Dare I say women are less safe with our cultural enrichers around.
In the nicer areas of England women should be safe enough. But of course, it depends on the area and context. You generally have to follow your common sense , have a bit of street smarts, and hey, why put yourself in a needless situation. Men may be at less risk of sexual crimes (but it still does happen), but violence, muggings, etc, are very real risks. If you're attacked the cowards usually attack in numbers or with a knife.
Not really , she should always be prepared for danger no matter what time of the day it is. My advice is buy yourself a can of OC Pepper spray and keep it with you at all times , you can keep it in your purse or connect to your key chain. Also , recommend females and males ’ to take self defense classes as well , it can save yourself , if you ever encounter danger , I use to be an self defense instructor and taught self defense classes to males and females. When I learned self defense myself , i was amazed on how effective self defense can be , the things that I was taught to defend myself , was things I wouldn’t even think about , when encountering danger. The more you practice the better you will be to the point it just becomes second nature to yourself. No matter what size you are , you can defend yourself and take someone down that is bigger than you , the bigger they are , the harder they fall , self defense can teach you how to encounter dangerous situations to save your life.
Normally I’m very happy to say that women should have complete autonomy to live their lives and I really and truly believe that. However these days especially in larger cities I really fear for the safety of women, I can’t help it. The fact is women are more vulnerable and less likely to be able to successfully repel a predator than a man. I would encourage women to not walk around at night alone, find a safer way home. My partner was stalked and harassed by some methhead asshole on a BMX the other day, these men should be sterilized so they can’t make future assholes. Ladies, the real men in your life husband, boyfriend, father, brother, son, all care about you too much to have something bad happen to you.
Overall yes. Contrary to social media and conspiracy theories the largest of men do not walk around looking for women to take advantage of and harm.
Truthfully men are more likely to be attacked than women and if a woman does get attacked and men are around they have a higher chance of those men jumping in to help than the men being attacked.

You walk around during the day don't you? More people sleep at night than during the day. There are many places you can walk at night were you will not see a single person for 10s of miles. If none is around to interact with you, then you're not going to run into much conflict.

I think that generally as long as you aren't in a bad area it's fairly safe for women at night.. I mean even in bad or sketchy areas I've seen women walk around alone.. They must have been packing though.. Overall yes because the majority of people walking at night are safely walking to their destination.
The reality is it's ok not to feel comfortable and to want to walk with someone to feel safer. Also, sometimes women are victimized while walking alone somewhere so it's understandable to be concerned.

99% of the difference is about the neighborhood. Men aren't safe in those same neighborhoods. Men are more likely to be the victims of violence, and violence is heavily concentrated in certain types of neighborhoods. I have walked home late by myself many times. It’s a short walk so i feel safe doing it. But to answer your question it depends, there are so many variables for example crime rates are higher in some places than in others. Also how familiar is she with the area. You will feel safer if you know where you are.
I would avoid it if possible, but sometimes you have to do it. It's obviously safer when there are other people around. You should never walk alone at night in third world countries.

It depends on the area and who else is around. Obviously, if there were no criminals about, there would be no issue. It would be best to err on the side of caution and have someone with you while walking at night.

As a guy, there are times I have been out alone at night and I have felt unsafe. Not necessarily for the same reasons, but I don't think keeping the streets safe at night needs to be a gender issue, it can affect anybody.
