Have you ever been told to lie to customers by an employer if so and why?

feel like this happens from time to time at some businesses but may or may not be that common of a thing to do anymore.

downtown in my hometown is this bar/pub , whenever anyone asks the servers if there is anything else open late they always say no. and we get a lot of random tourists here so there not necessary familiar with the area

but this isn't true , there is another small bar down the street , you can't see it so maybe a 5 minute walk away and found out they've been doing karaoke nights every Friday and are actually fairly busy

so the servers at this place have obviously been told by the management to not tell anyone about the other spot , it has to be intentional why else would they be doing this.

a few weeks ago i specifically asked the one bartender if she knew why it had been so slow on Friday night and she claimed to not know of anywhere else anyone could of went that night in our town. despite the fact this other bar is open down the street and been doing karaoke on Friday since at least the spring.

she has to know about the other bar , she drives by it on her way home
