Girls, why do girls ask their friends ‘who is this?’ when I send a friend request?

When I send a friend request to a girl on Instagram, I’ve noticed some ask their friends, ‘Who is this?’ before accepting. Why do they do this? Is it caution, curiosity, or something else?

Sorry but it has been a while since I have been on my Insta account but how are you seeing what her friends are saying if she hasn't yet accepted the follow? If I remember correctly the follow has to be accepted before you can see any content and therefore wouldn't be able to tell they said a thing about "who is this?". Perhaps that policy has changed but that is the way that I remember it. It is a very simple privacy setting. So how do you know they were asking that. Let's assume that you did know for sure it is probably a mix of curiousity and to know if it is someone that she knows and what the relation is between you too. If she is letting someone into her inner circle they might be more cautious when on Insta since they don't know you. They are likely looking for her to vouche for you in some way.

I don't have any social media besides G@G, although G@G is not really a social media per se.

Now, if anyone sends me a follow request on G@G, which I presume is similar to a friend request on any other social media, then I want to know who that person that sends me a request is. I am not going to accept just anyone because, let's face it, a lot of people simply follow girls and women because they want something from them.

I will thoroughly investigate that person before accepting any follows request because I don't want to be caught with some kind of pervert or a person that asks for nudes. It has happened in the past and that is why I would not accept such requests from people I don't know.

If a girl asks who that person is, then it is simply because she is cautious. Too many weirdos are trying to slide in a person's DM or social media with devious and lewd intentions.

Pretty straightforward thing to ask when someone new is joining a group. Not sure how this is hard to figure out.
