Why do people think it’s okay to sexually harass others?

I am in my early 20s and work in retail. I come to work with a polo shirt, dress pants, and no make up everyday. But I still get hit on by male customers that come in. It’s not all the time but it still does happen. They ask if I’m single or for my number. I always tell them I have a boyfriend which is the truth. They always accept it and walk way. The other day, a customer in his mid 50s came up to me. He had a thick accent which I couldn’t quite understand but it seemed like he said we sold good products. I said thank you and smiled (because I always try to be friendly with my customers and have a positive attitude). But then he proceeded to put his two hands on my shoulder and tried to kiss me. I backed away and yelled no. After that, he walked away. I went to tell my co workers who tried to catch the guy and I told the store manager who really didn’t do shit except ask me what aisle it happened in. But I don't understand what the hell this guy was thinking? He didn’t ask if I was seeing anyone, he was old enough to be my dad, and it was absolutely disgusting that he thought he could sexually harass me at my job. Sir this is a fucking retail store not a dating app. All I want to is to do my job and not deal with pervy guys like that.
