Do girls in college prefer guys with good looks or more status, such as being an athlete or in a fraternity?

I'm a very good-looking guy, and girls have told me that before (this was before college though), and this whole freshman year has gone by, and no girls have ever approached me, even though they look at me all the time. Sometimes, groups of girls look at me and then start smiling at each other and giggling about it. And it's not like the making fun of me kind of laughing, it's like the giddy and nervous laughing, I can tell. Maybe it's because I don't have a status position yet, i'm not sure.

As I remember there was really no rhyme or reason. The athletes usually got a lot of girls but not the frat boys. Sometimes a total loser would have a really hot girlfriend and I used to just scratch my head.
