Are my friends toxic?

I'm actually trying to validate my opinions. We have newly started our classes and here I have met a group of girls. They're local, I have come from quite some distance since this institution is known to be very good. There's one class that only 6 of us from our department attend: these 5 are there with me. Now I often catch them making comments about me that are quite rude. For example, I'm from a rural area and one person asked me once how can I speak English so fluently being a village girl (English is not our mother tongue). Similar things they say about my appearance too. For example I've Type 2B hair, which is wavy with big, loose curls. They keep commenting that I should resort to straightening. However, I often see them talk about some characters from some famous shows and many of them I notice have exactly the same hair as me. Most period pieces in Netflix feature characters whose hair looks like mine. I even one day caught one of them curling her hair. So why is it unattractive on me according to them and beautiful on others?

One day one of them came up to me to ask if I had applied for "exceptionally poor students scholarship" and when I asked her why she was asking about it, she said: "I thought you can get it." I mean I probably don't seem so but I come from an upper middle class family. If she herself was applying for it and thought I could benefit from it, I'd not have minded.

There are many similar incidents. However, whenever they need help with studies, I immediately become the smartest person they know, kindest person they can think of etc etc. Even if I try to avoid them they talk to me and now I think it's because they need help from me.

My other classmates aren't like that. I think they're toxic and not just ignorant like they claim they're. I'm right, right?
