Coming from someone who’s way too nice and tries to avoid both confrontation and upsetting someone, it doesn’t mean what you’re hoping it means. Of course I could be wrong and you shouldn’t be discouraged, if you’re interested then make a move. Asserting yourself looks really good to a woman.
I don't think it was her being friendly or polite because she isn't obligated to say yes. We don't see each other so there is no chance of an awkward interaction if she said no.
Why does anyone say yes to anything when there’s no obligation? Judging by your perspective, you have no problem saying no to this or that and hey, good for you. But a lot of people, especially women, just don’t feel comfortable facing confrontation. Even if you know you would’ve been totally fine with her saying no, we just don’t feel comfortable doing that. I’m not saying it’s right, it’s not. But that’s just how a lot of us are. Even if you don’t see each other regularly there’s of course the chance for it to happen again and she doesn’t want to face the guilt of seeing you again after rejecting you and dealing with potential drama. Some people are unhinged.
Well, that could be anything or nothing whatsoever. Men I know drop by my job all the time and chat; it doesn't mean anything.
