Why do people with anorexia believe they are overweight?

I just don’t get it. It’s like a guy with hair down to his waist insisting he’s bald. Anorexic people deny the facts staring them in the face—the scale, their reflection, everyone else’s observations. It’s obviously wrong. If someone actually thought they were bald while their hair was long, everyone would call it ridiculous. So why do we treat anorexic people’s beliefs as if they make sense? They’ve literally created a problem in their own head that doesn’t exist in reality.
