Some of the main reasons are: the elasticity of the band give way, straps stretch out, the cups lose their shape, underwire issues & fabric begins to wear. Most of this is due to normal wear & tear and washing/drying. Hand washing & hang drying can slow those issues down some, but it's almost nearly impossible to prevent.
