Why do women feel ashamed to show their bodies?

I'm not ashamed to show my body. I just don't want to wear stuff which I thought was pretty but didn't see it as "too revealing" (but I guess it was). Now I would rather be seen as classy than sexy. I used to wear revealing stuff when I was younger, but I realised later that it also attracted too much attention which I didn't like. It would make me feel uncomfortable. Also, I felt that some guys where I live assume that if a women wear something skimpy, she'd get in a bed with them easily and I wasn't okay with that assumption.

For some guys I cannot get my clothes off fast enough and let them do what they want. But I've also been skinny dipping where random guys I don't even know see my naked body and have a good amount of time to look at it. Otherwise I'm fairly private about it.

Our Society teaches Shame of Nudity. If you don't teach it. It disappears. I can remember my parents teaching me to cover myself. My our children were taught by me. My grandchild by her parents. It goes all the way back to the Garden of Eden where the Snake (evidently the embodiment of evil) told Adam and Eve that God did not love them because He let them walk in the Garden without clothing. Somehow we get that twisted 180 degrees.
