I’ve been with my girlfriend for about ten years, and she’s just finished her MA. During her degree she made a few guy friends, including one she’s especially close to. They’ve known each other for around four years, and in all that time I’ve met him twice. Meanwhile, she texts him constantly -long messages.
I generally trust her, but this guy is attractive, stylish, cool—the whole package—and they speak a lot. She keeps reminding me he has a girlfriend, almost like she’s trying to reassure me.
She makes plans with her uni friends from time to time, but I’m never invited. And sometimes she goes to see him alone—just the two of them. In fact, as I’m writing this, she’s out meeting him again. She told me earlier that she “had plans,” but only later admitted she was going to see him. When I asked if it was just the two of them, she said yes. I joked, “Like a date, hey?” and she didn’t reply. She even gets properly dressed up when she goes to see him.
I’ve expressed concern before, because I can see he’s attractive, and probably... generously endowed. She tells me I’m being insecure. She invited him to a gig with us once, but we barely spoke, and he mostly hung out with another friend. I saw him again at a birthday party—he seemed cool, which somehow only made me more suspicious.
I’ve been trying to convince myself not to be insecure, not to give her grief about seeing him tonight—just the two of them—but here I am.

What Girls Said
If I were you I would be worried. I don't believe pure friendship between beautiful ladies and handsome guys. Maybe there's no emotional flow between them, but deep in their mind, there must be something going on. But, just saying, it's my personal opinion
10 years and no ring? Do you just not believe in marriage?
Touche
I mainly asked this because it just sounds like you’re wasting her time. Even if that’s not your intention and even if you disagree, this is coming from a woman’s perspective and after all this time if you hadn’t proposed yet the future would look bleak. I’m not saying anything is going on with this guy but at the same time I wouldn’t blame her for setting her sights elsewhere when the man she’s with is dragging his feet. You can blame it on school, finances or whatever but it’s hard to believe that after all these years you haven’t been able to make something happen.
Your poor girlfriend.
Stop with the petty insecurities.
