Why do I see so many young children out and about, but never see any women who are pregnant?

Well, children are children for a lot longer than a woman is noticeably pregnant, so it's simply much more common to encounter one, over the other.

A 5 year old child, for example, only spent spent roughly 1/10 of its existence as a noticeable bump in a woman's abdomen. You're simply seeing those children in that other 9/10.

Statistically, that makes actual pregnant women significantly more rare to encounter than a child.

Pregnancy is not blatantly obvious (belly sticking way out) until around 30 weeks. And most women, depending on where you live, stop going out & about around that time and some take maternity leave.

Childhood lasts years, pregnancy is only a few months and in a country full of millions you can’t expect to catch every single pregnancy before birth any day of the week.

A full-term pregnancy lasts approximately 9 months. The stage where a woman is visibly pregnant is even shorter, perhaps 4 to 5 months.
