I'm sure it happens, but It doesn't seem to be as prevalent today. I could be considered "pure" under your definition, but thats due to luck, lack of desire to pursue nonserious relationships, and a bit of social retardation.

Kind of in relation to our current world. The traditional view would be waiting until marriage. The vast majority of people my age don't have that expectation.

I'd have to write an essay to adequately answer all that. Religion has been a big reason traditionally. A lot of guys pursue women just for casual action and have no intention of getting in a relationship. Someone willing to wait, is more likely to be serious about a relationship.
