Is sarcasm often just stupidity in disguise?

This memory popped into my head of this girl I grew up with. She had this thing from all the way back in the 3rd or 4th grade where she didn't like being 1upped. Which you might say "who does" but keep in mind I'm 30 and this is what I remember about her from when we were 8 😂

Anyway, I'm pretty sure she explained what sarcasm was to me because I remember her explaining it in a really condescending way... I also remember her being wrong a lot.

It's just crazy to think that's how young we are when we get tempted to feel above others or control social hierarchy.

Years later I had a delivery job and I saw her in a small, messy house wearing a dirty tank top with a lizard on her shoulder. Which I'm sure she didn't realize I felt this way but I thought that was pretty cool.

She was still the way I remembered her. You could almost see how she had a sharp comment ready to go the moment you made her feel self conscious.

me being sarcastic with you, is giving you the chance and the opening for you to tone it down... lol, and then we both can just laugh it out and walk away

99% of the times that stupid dudes got stupid with me... I replied with sarcasm instead, I laughed it out and I went on my way, lol... as for the few ones who decided to keep stupid and be even more stupid, well... I got stupid as well

and then I walked away... while they were dragged to the shade in, shame, I assume

so yeah, we both were stupid but oh well, lessons learned... sarcasm is most of the times a reaction, and kind of a deflection, but stupidity is usually straight... it only reflects iself

Uhhhh, often? It entirely depends on who you interact with, on average?

Sarcasm to me presupposes one or several of the following elements:

• Just being blasé
• Sending tribal signs to a supposed tribe member in question
• Self-centeredness, that one overlaps with stupidity I guess
• Coping mechanism against the world's harshness

It can be witty and fun
Funny for people who has good humor
Unserious people that serious people don’t get lol
Defense mechanism for people who is mad, too serious, or can’t take it when people disagree with them

In my experience, sarcasm is more just a specific form of humor. I’m glad you still thought she was cool, even if you clearly hated her

Quite the opposite. Sarcasm is letting you know that a point of view is redundant and being a dick about it in a nice way. For instance.. Trying to get laid on here a much too much?
