Are women actually more immune to cold weather than men?

Question

I was at a festival, and it was cloudy and maybe like in the 50s. Even before I left the hotel, I had to throw on longs and a beanie, because it was absolutely freezing. My dad went in shorts, and ended up having to go to the car to throw on longs, 'cuz his legs were freezing. Almost all the men I saw had on long clothes, meanwhile, women and girls were walking around in SKIRTS and SANDALS/FLIP FLOPS🤣

in my opinion, no, it’s actually like a running joke in houses and offices that women always want the thermostat set higher and men always want it set lower and that is def true for me. As for how they were dressed I can't tell from what you wrote if it was hundreds of women dressed like that or if it was one particular group you happened to be sitting near, or, what kind of event it was, in some situations the social idea of looking attractive might be more important to some people than feeling comfortable. Personally I would like it to always be warm. JMO!

people complain about me complaining about this. i hate hot weather, but when it's cold i get freezing, so i can't win. when we go into the studio on the hottest days in the summer i'm all bundled up like Mr. Freeze Miser (though today is the first day of summer and it's only in the 60s outside 🥶, and i will complain just as much next week when it will probably be 110°). can't win

I think women’s clothing are very underrated in terms of cold resistance.

But I don’t think women are more immune to cold than men.
The opposite in fact.
Most women I know will shiver during winter, very few men do that as well

The biggest defender against cold is internal fuel to burn, otherwise known as body mass.

On average men are a lot denser than women in that regard so they have more insulation against the cold
But a small sized man will be colder than a large sized woman. The gender itself makes no real difference

I wear shorts 11 months a year, and have been known to walk through 18" of snow in shorts and flip flops. Maybe your family is just overly sensitive to the cold.

It actually depends on lot of factors actually, first it can be hormonal, and as we all know women go through hormonal stuff all their life , for instance women after menopause have hard time regulating body temperature , they can experience extremely hot flashes as well as cold... so that something... other is what kinda body type you usually have... and all month womens body temperature fluctuates mostly during periods... also someone wth iron deficiency experiences more cold and someone wth thyroid issues as well... so yeah it depends... also biological wome store more fat in thighs so maybe it helps... but mostly women do it for aesthetics haha , I mean I am usually freezing and have ton of clothes 😂

If young and active, as in teens and early twenties, I believe girls can withstand cold better, probably because they have a higher body fat percentage. As children, there is no difference, and if older, I don't know.

I'm from Florida and I walk around in short sleeve t-shirts in the 30s F or in the 90s F. If I'm not going to be outside for more than like 20 minutes I'll probably do the same in 27 F any longer than that and I'll probably throw on a hooded sweatshirt mainly to keep my hands warm in the pockets so I don't get frost bite. Most weather doesn't bother me. I have a shaved head as well so no insulation. I don't mind the rain or the sun the cold or the heat.

my French brother in law says fashion before comfort lol…

he moved here… went to buy a heavy down coat immediately when winter arrived. Not fashionable down coat at all.

Girls definitely do still get cold. It depends on their individual bodies. However, if a girl has a cute outfit on, she will NOT let the weather ruin her outfit she had planned. Kind of silly but a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do to look good.

No. Men have higher muscle mass and hence higher metabolism -> should feel the cold less. I'm not sure the difference is material, though.

I hear it's the other way around, that women tend to have a higher body temperature. What kind of festival was it? Could've been the kind of event that women would risk being cold to feel a little more pretty for.
