Go to this yoga place.
Rented a mat from them. The girl who got the mat for me was super sweet.
Later on when I was returning it another woman said did you see the rack at the back with all the mats? I said no. She said did you wipe the mat? I said no. She said I’ll do it for you this time but next time etc.
i said it’s okay I can do it. She said the spray is at the back etc I’ll get someone to help you.
I said yeah I didn’t know etc I wasn’t told anything and implied she could do it.
I would have willingly done it. But something in my gut was that she was looking at the colour of my skin and doing this. I rented the mat didn’t borrow it. She was acting like I did something wrong and reprimanding me for it as opposed to being polite about it. Especially when I wasn’t told anything of the sort at the beginning how was I supposed to know.

First of all there ain’t enough information to say it was racially bias. But if you look hard I’m sure you could find a way to make it racially bias if that’s what you’re hoping for. But to me it wasn’t racially motivated. After all she did offer to clean it this time but explained the procedures as far as what is expected here on out. She may have said it in a manner you didn’t like, whether you were already having a bad day or not or maybe even she was. I’m not saying that’s an excuse for how she said it. Sounds like the first employee didn’t do her job fully by explaining the policy on rented equipment. But too I’ve never been to a place where you return the equipment no cleaned unless it’s a special type of equipment that has to go through some thorough cleaning procedure. Maybe a Lear ing lesson for you next time to go to another gym or something as far as asking questions when it comes to rental equipment.
I would say you have a valid customer complaint. If things weren’t explained to you then maybe that could be addressed. The assumption that everyone walking in the door knows the policy shouldn’t be a thing. Also if the person was really condescending that needs to be addressed as well, because chances are she’s talked to other customers like that. But as far as it being racially biased, at this point I don’t think it was. If anything she needs to talk to other stay to make sure they’re instructing patrons in what to do w the mats once they’ve been used as far as returning them.
They probably didn't assume you were a first timer or new visitor, I don't know about the yoga stuff but I think the hygiene stuff is policy rules in the place
Why do you say etc so much?
You might be right. Trust your intuition.
