What does it mean if your Boyfriend calls you pet names that used to belong to his ex girlfriends

My boyfriend really liked his third ex girlfriend and they called each other babe. Their relationship lasted almost three months, but she cheated on him. His fouth ex and they called each other baby and they dated for almost two months. We have been dating for three months almost four now. He calls me babe and baby and I was just wondering if he is thinking about me when he says that or is he thinking about his exs? Should I suggest a new name? I have told him that it bothers me, but he still does it. What is happening and what should I do? What is he really thinking when he calls me by pet names of his exs?

if it bothers you that much then suggest something new or ask him to think of a new one. honestly he probably just cares about you... I called my exes thta and my first love that I was with for 8 months I called babe and baby and I had some special ones for him... I am truly in love with the guy I'm with now and its been 6 months for us and he actually treats me right..i call him some of the names I called my ex but I am not thinking of him when I say them. I tried to think of a new one in case it bothered him and now we call each other that as well, but I really doubt he is thinking of his exes when he calls you that. Especially because babe and baby are common names people couples call each other.Truth is, there are only so many things you can call your girlfriend. I wouldn't worry :) but suggest hun, dear, sweety, sweetheart. I called my boyfriend boo once and now he calls me that a lot so do something like that :)

I would rather be called a name that fits me, preferably one made just for me.

I hope not be called name based off someone else, for I am not them or her.

it could just be that those are the names he's use to using and nothing else feels normal. you can ask him to call you sweaty or hun. I called my last Girl Mittens (private reasons) so that's an uncommon nick name that I'll never reuse because babe and the other two are more common.
