Why do people think quiet people are dumb?

I was quiet in school, and no one thought I was dumb because the few times I did speak my answers were very well put together, and when I was asked a question I gave the right answer.
Some people judge easily. It's hard not to be annoyed by it, but the person being judged can't let someone else's ignorance effect them.
I also think that being "opinionated" is a sign of intelligence, and people only know what they see. If they see nothing that is what they think the person has. It's stupid, but I really think that is how it works with most people.
I thought the stereotype for quiet people was that they were the smart ones? You know, the shy quiet NERDY girl / guy?
And all the loud outgoing people are obsessed with their looks, have to be the life of the party, can't be alone for more than 5 minutes, and would rather party than learn anything - you know the dumb JOCKS, PARTY girls / guys?
Whoever got the stereotypes confused is an idiot...
am quiet and I was hanging out with this guy and I didn't have anything to say and he said am really quiet I might kill him
lol that doesn't mean he called you dumb silly - he was referring to the whole " look out for the quiet one's " deal.
You know that other stereotype that suggest quiet people are wicked and secretly all murderers lol
i know
Because they don't talk much...just like dumb people...
But if they say words...the opinion should change instantly.
I'm quiet and have had people say that to me
I guess they just don't know how clever you are as you never speak up
so they might think that you just don't know the answers
Those that tend to listen, tend to learn more. If they think you are dumb, take advantage of the fact that they have underestimated you.

I've never heard anyone call quiet people dumb. In fact, they're considered mysterious and outrageous.
typically because they're dumb themselves
To the contrary, Russians even have a saying "It's the quietest pond, in which devil takes residence". As in, quiet people have much more to them that meets the eye, that can even be one's undoing :)
I'm more on the quiet side, and people have always assumed I'm smart.
This girl said that she used to think I was dumb because I didn't talk much... then she said that everyone thought I was dumb (which I dont think is true)
I honestly never knew people thought that about quiet people. :-X
maybe am just over thinking it
Because they're stupid. I hate when people assume something is wrong with someone just because they aren't extroverts.
i agree, because am really socially awkward and sometimes I think people think am dumb and am really not
I don't think that way
I always thought this
"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt"
i have heard that poem before I just can't remember who wrote it
and some of the most famous people where quiet.
Abraham Lincoln.
i thought people assumed the quiet ones were always the geniuses and the stupid ones were motormouths?
your right
people have fears of the unknown so they assume things that they don't know about. I mean certain people like keeping things to themselfs. I prefer quiet people then some annoying person who talks constantly and never stops.
i know quiet people can be really cool once you get to know them
Being as I'm quiet myself...I'm absolutely certain of it.
LOL
I never assume they're dumb...just weird. I don't trust quiet people.
why you don't trust them?
I don't know. It's like they're silently analyzing things...it just weirds me out.
I've never gotten dumb, but I have heard comments about being dangerous. Unfortunately, all of those nuts that go on a rampage are described as people that keep to themselves.
I don't know anyone that thinks that, usually it's the loud people that are dumb?
thats what I think too
I usually think they are smart.
i think the opposite lol
i agree, because we think before we say anything stupid
I don't.
Ignorant people..
i know people are just too lazy to get to know you before they judge
