Guys: Eye contact with a girl - Is it just to be friendly, show interest or is it simply your nature?

I saw this guy I'm secretly crushing on in the hallway from afar and acted as if I didn't see him. Just as we are about to pass by each other I look at him and the second I do he looks at me and we made eye contact. We've never talked to each other but I really want to get to know him. Is this a good sign? Did he purposely look at me to respond to me initiating the eye contact or was it just a natural reaction? I personally wouldn't look at someone I didn't find attractive even if I knew they were looking at me. I'd avoid eye contact at all costs just because I don't want the person to be getting the wrong idea. What about you guys?

That was my first ever eye contact with him. I've never made any kind of communication (verbal or non-verbal) with him. I'm not worked up or over analyzing or anything by the way. Just curious so I know if I should or shouldn't pluck up the courage to send off more signals to him to show my interest :)

Just being friendly - I'm just being nice

Show some level of interest - I might think they're attractive or at least pleasing to the eye

Nature - I always look at people and make eye contact and it doesn't mean anything

I think it could be showing interest :). There's this guy that I see around campus that was in one of my classes a while ago. He's in another one of my classes this semester. The other day I was walking to a different class and I saw him first from a distance. I'm a little bit shy around him, so when he noticed me looking I looked away fast. However when we were passing right by each other, I looked back up and he was staring me directly in the eyes. It was an intense stare too. This isn't the first time this has happened with him either, it's like every time we pass by one another now that I think about it. Say hi to him the next time you see him.

I'm the same way about eye contact -- I don't look at a guy directly in the eye if I'm not interested. I do tend to look at people to see what I pick up in terms of a general observation, but eye contact is a direct engagement that I won't take on lightly.

I noticed that guys who are hitting on me and guys I know like me in the romantic sense of the word, almost "stare me down", if that's the term. They will stare at me for longer time periods, whether I am returning the look or not, often content because they know I am aware of them looking.

well there is a difference bewteen a glance and a stare. You stare or in other words keep your sight fixed on something that you likek; that's a fact. For instance: When you go shoping, you see or glance at a lot of clothes right? But if you see something that you like, you fix your sight on it and then you probably evaluate it or keep looking at it and go for it, to try it out or try to see how you like with it close to a mirror.

Using eye contact exclusively is a bad way to go in order to convey interest. It's best to combine actions (looking AND talking).

Only using one to convey interest is weak, and not easy for the other person to pick up on. It leaves way too much open to interpretation, and if the person interpreting is wrong...well, now things just got bizarre.

I'm kind've a player and I rarely keep eye contact with guys unless it's a friend because I'm kinda cocky, but with girls I do it all the time because most of em dig that stuff, and A LOT of times it works in my favor espescially when you are attractive and you smile and give them eye contact, their hooked.

There's a difference between a eye contact when looking around or passing by, and prolonged eye contact/more than once.

Most of the time I try to catch people's eyes as I pass them just to make it not awkward as we both avert our gazes as we pass each other, even if the person is elderly or something.

I look most people in the eyes when I'm talking to them, I do different things with girls I may have an interest in though.

Eye contact is the most awkward indicator of alleged romantic interest!

Confident people make eye contact naturally and it's easy to assume they are interested even if they're not. Someone looking in your eyes does not mean they want you.

its 50/50 you won't know till you ask or show him your interested. a lot of pple look each other but it dosnt mean that they are attracted.
