Guys, does popularity matter to you?

Guys at my school seem to only fancy literally the 5 most popular girls at school... so, is that normal? Does popularity make any difference when picking a girl?

In high school, guys will compete over a handful of girls because they aren't really interested in dating yet. They want attention from good looking girls and they want to look good to other guys. So if all the other guys want a certain girl, they will at least mildly entertain the idea of being the one to get her and to beat out all the other guys.

That being said, a lot of nice people who opt out of the popularity contest end up getting to know each other and having nice relationships. It's the same as with the really good looking guys at your school -- most girls might find them physically attractive, but not all of them will actively pursue him or even want to do so.

In the high school popularity matters a lot.

You can be attractive, but if you are unpopular no one will look your way.

You can be soso looking or even ugly, but has long has you are popular, you will get plenty of attention, followers and a lot of the guys.

Social status brings people far in high school.

They don't make those high school flicks for no reason, haha.

Guys go after the popular girls.

When one guy was going after me then other guys noticed me also and started going after me just because the other guy was pursuing me.

It's normal. Guys are not too bright sometimes because obviously they are going to be disappointed when they get rejected. Guys set themselves up for rejection and then they complain about it.

It's a very simple minded thing, but alas people ARE simple minded.

I agree with this because the people that are saying "no" aren't high school age anymore. I know for a fact when I was the posters age popularity had to do with a lot! If you were unpopular people wouldn't look at you for even one second.

It's not that it's 100% wrong but studies have shown men care much less then woken about others view of a prospective partners looks.

Ts probably wrong to say men are unaffected by it, but they are affected less then women.

Hay kheserthorpe, what is that study you were talking about? I want to look it up. It's a little unrelated to the above popularity question but the study are talking about sounds curious to me.

So you are saying that the study find that men care less about a groups opinion of the guys prospective partner. So if a guy likes me but other people don't like me the guy doesn't care that other people don't like me? Is that it?

being popular means jack sh*t when you get to a certain age. I don't care whether a girl is popular or not. I am 30 now, what matters to me is a few good friends than a 1000 fake friends. also at my age I have come too realize the more friends you have, the more hassle it is.

i don't care whether a girl is popular or not. it is what she is like as a person that's counts, not her status.

although school it could be different, everything is done by popularity. if you are not popular, I think it could be harder for that person. that's just my assumption on things. being at school can be a cruel and horrible place. thank god my school days are over now.

Most guys really don't care about status, that being said, a lot of the most popular girls are also the best looking, which is what most guys are looking for. That's not to say average looking girls can't get a boyfriend in high school, but that they have to be more proactive in approaching guys and showing interest.

No.. popularity matters to only those guys who seek attention themselves. And if you want to know what kind of girls a guy would go for, then I would say it depends on whatmood/ phase a guy is in. we tend to go for beautiful and sexy at first then most of us realize that inner beauty is what matters more. some stick to that and some go back looking for the sexy and beautiful..
