He lets me hug him from the back, put my hands on his chest/ stomach but when it comes to talking he doesn't talk to me much. He can talk easily to his other female friends (he's known them longer than me) but he doesn't let them touch him like I can.

You probably just make him nervous. I talk with my female friends all the time, but when there's a new woman in my life, I rarely have any idea what to say to her. I'm aware of it though and do my best to counteract it. Give him time, he'll open up eventually.
