A man says "I feel close to you" to a lady when out in a pub with a group of college classmates... I know it was meant in an emotional manner (not a physical one), but what exactly did he mean by it?

He probably means it as more than a friend. Guys generally don't say things like that to women they're not interested in.

Friend's classmate friend who we think flirts with her in a very covert way... He's always teasing her. She brought a friend (me) with her to her end of the year class party (college) and he said that before saying that they should get out of there. She is convinced that he just wanted to leave with two girls because the service was bad, but I keep telling her that he must like her since he didn't invite any other classmates and ignored me most of the night. He bought us each a rose and said something sweet to her when he gave her hers... She called her guy best friend to come out with us and the guy in question tried his best to make buddies with him. She tried to test the waters by seeing if he (or her guy best friend) would hold her purse and he said no because that would mean that he was taken, so of course her guy best friend ended up holding her purse. Any ideas are appreciated.

Yes. She missed the suggestion because it was the whole "I'll just walk home from your place" delivery and she was trying to be sweet so she made her designated driver take him home (she thought he was trying not to be a pain). The designated driver said that he told her that he thought I was hot in a bitter sounding tone after she said they could run him home, so I think that he was just trying to see if she would react by getting jealous to gauge her interest.

He said it as her and the designated driver were dropping him off. He went into his place alone. Neither of them tried to hug each other although she hugged the rest of us bye... He offered me his jacket at one point during the night when I said I was cold, but he seems quite the gentleman (and always is from what I am told). Additionally, he took her to get drinks alone at the bar (he was calling her "the lady", and he certainly didn't call me that!) and he took her guy best friend to check out girls (and the guy best friend said I was hot and the guy in question offered no comment about either of us, although the best friend thought the guy was trying to get him away from or find out his intentions with our girl best friend).
