Girls: Have you not yet realized that many guys hate texting?

There are probably a dozen questions a day on here asked by girls about "I texted him asking about our relationship at 8:00am on a Tuesday and he didn't respond, does he like me?" and "Why doesn't he put more emoticons in his text messages?" and "We scheduled a date in a few days but I still feel it necessary to bombard him with innane shit in the meantime and he doesn't respond, what does it mean?"
I'm just going on the record informing the girls of GAG that many guys don't like texting and/or phones in general. The whole purpose of a phone call/text is not to have a conversation, it's to set up a time to have a conversation. We don't all start a stop watch when a text is sent to ensure that our texts get sent within an acceptable time frame with a built in variance. Also, guys are often out there busting their asses to provide for y'all, so yes, we're really that busy.

I personally don't like texting all that much either. As it is only one dimensional communication, things could easily be taken the wrong way, as one does not know what tone the other is making that comment in. It also creates a false sense of knowing another and intimacy.
I also much prefer to speak in person.
However if I am dating a guy, and we're trying to set up a time to meet, and I havn't seen or heard from him for a number of days, then I might just briefly ask him how his week has been in one of the few messages that we send, if a guy doesn't respond to that at all, I do find that just a little rude.
I think that if a guy doesn't want to converse AT ALL via texting, that's fine and fair enough, but instead of not saying anything at all and not replying at all, it doesn't hurt to simply communicate this. Just say in a text "good thanks! But I'd much prefer to catch up/speak in person, will see you on Tuesday!" Etc, just something like that. Then when in person, a guy can just admit that he hates texting.
Because most girls are not mind readers, and assume that what the guy doesn't like is themselves, rather than the texting. So don't leave a girl in the dark.
It is confusing, because not every guy hates texting, some seem to be serial texters, and girls often get used to this.
I personally dislike it too, I need my own head space, rather than someone sending me a message every five minutes asking me what I'm doing.

I often don't message guys because I thinks it's annoying for them.
The problem is that most of the girls are only thinking about themselves as in, hoping for the guy's attention through messaging him like a hundred times. I had dated a girl that kept on being clingy and kept on writing to me like every second of the day, and it was annoying. I guess girls wanna be liked, but don't know how to do it. Especially they think texting is the easiest form of communications as they don't have to be face-to-face and don't forget girls get really self-conscious with guys they like.

My boyfriend loves to text, he'll text me random shit during the day when I'm out.

Also, his mate is mad in love with texting, uses WhatsApp day and night. His response time is phenomenal.

I tend to be a bit slower with my replies. I'll check my phone, be like "Oh, I'll reply when I get on the bus." - forget the second I place it back in my pocket.
Then remember hours later lol.

i dont necessarily hate texting, in fact i prefer it but...its when she expects me to get back to her right away that i dont like. i like to take my time and think about what to say before i say it, as to make sure my words come out right. people who type too fast, dont think about what they say and then theyve sent it and dont realize how insulting it sounded until they get "..." or even no reply at all.

I don't mind texting, my problem is that many people turn text messaging into instant messaging with tens or hundreds of messages being exchanged. That's folly imo! Text messaging should be quick and simple, if I want to have a full blown conversation I'd prefer to have face-to-face discussions with people.

Haha I'm pretty sure I commented on some of those. I know my dude hates texting and it makes me feel stupid when he doesn't text back, but I know he just...doesn't like it. And if I'm still mad about it, I just don't talk to him until I'm over it (usually a few hours). So he never has to know I'm mad.

Lol, well explained apropos. I had the same question at the back of my mind but I got the answer now. Thing is we girls think a lot about the guy we are in love with. So we tend to text them just to say hello or to ask what is he doing. They are just random reminders to the guy that he is on my mind and we girls don't find it annoying instead we find it cute if we get texts from someone only coz he was missing or I was on his mind. Its THAT simple!

I have one guy who I have text conversations with every single day for most of the day as well as hour plus conversations instigated by both of us so I think you're over generalising a bit there... but yes some guys don't like texting and it's important to be able to tell who does and doesn't so that you don't read too much into things

My boyfriend writes me paragraphs or more every text and uses smileys and emojis. He talks on text more than I do. Nobody really likes texting. calling or in person is better. So yeah, guys don't like texting. But neither do girls all in all.
