Melancholy/sad look from a guy? What do you think is going through his mind?

What does a melancholy sad/thoughtful look mean do you think? What do you think he's thinking?

My guy friend often stares at me and sometimes I'll turn around and find him looking at me with this really melancholy vulnerable (?) almost sad/thoughtful very emotional look on his face.

I looked at a group photo and noticed his eyes weren't on the camera, they appear to be on me - and he has this look on his face. I don't think he thought anyone would notice.

See my other questions for info on him but suffice it to say I think he loves me God willing.

(He might've been mad that I made him get in the photo but he's socially competent enough to smile lol and the look wasn't anger it was... emotional, almost a struggle on his face. And I've seen it before.)

Sounds like a look of anguish to me, perhaps he likes you and wants to date / be with you but doesn't know how to say it. He may even be fearful that revealing such feelings could ruin your friendship. Don't be fooled by "macho" beta males, alphas will reveal their emotions when they feel it's right to do so.

Ooh thank you, "anguish" is pretty accurate at the look's most intense although it's always pretty veiled. Like it's never full out anguish. I was pretty surprised when I saw the pic - thought he was mad at first (he didn't want to be in the pic). The other times were once I was fixing his tie and looked up and he had that look on his face like - I don't know how to explain it other than "I love her and don't know how to tell her" (I hope anyway God willing) - I call it the "in the movies look" and he's done it several times. I'm kind of hoping he doesn't see the pic :/ it's on a group Facebook page. I don't know that anyone else would even notice.

And thank you - that's what I think too God willing (I assume you read the other questions?). I feel the same, it's just that our situation right now makes things really difficult :/ loooooong story that I don't want to tell on here.

Hi, I know this is a while later - but he seems to have given up on me for now and I think it has to do with what his brother told me - that (the brother) thinks a lot of guys like me but don't feel "good enough" for me (plus my crush isn't in an ideal situation right now) so they friendzone me, which my crush seems to be doing at the moment. I'm not sure what to do - today I was with them and a friend mentioned something about me traveling somewhere dangerous *as a joke* and my crush got that same pained anguished look on his face - not sure he realized I saw. As far as I can tell he really is in love with me, but can't say anything now so is friend zoning me but planning to say something later since he keeps mentioning that he thinks I'll find someone soon, God willing.

I mean he knows me well and knows that there are some interested but I'm not interested in them...:/ he does act jealous of other guys' attention toward me but hey he randomly refers to girls as hot (I think to get my attention.) the sad thing is I like the guy. (And yes I need to do something about this situation - it's a super long story. I just ask about details on here bc it really helps me learn.)

Well it's not your fault that he's being a spineless joke. I mean he should just go up to you and ask you out on a date instead of sulking in self pity.

I think both of us are afraid, he essentially told me he loved me (God willing) the other day but in a "see how she reacts" kind of way. And I didn't know how to respond except to say I didn't want to leave either etc. (Per the links I pasted below.)
At the very least am attempting not to mention other guys' flirting around him. No need to upset him :/ see I do learn on here - used to think jealousy was a useful tool for example until a lot of guys were like no what are you doing.

How are we supposed to know? It can be anything! We can only guess. Maybe he wants you but he doesn't think he can get you or maybe he's depressed? Did you guys have history?

I think it's the former and possibly the latter - see my responses above.
We don't have history in that sense - we've been friends for a few years and roughly last February/March he started acting really different.
