Guy's Behavior

What does it mean when he says "Just give it time" ?

So Me & this guy have been talking for a while and haven't even got together and Already had sr x and have been in a few arguments dye to Guys Trying to still get my attention and his ex still trying to get back with him. These 2 reasons are probably the main reasons why we argue. But about 2 weeks ago he really got mad because he texted some guy who has been trying to get my attention and the other guy told him he was my boyfriend which was not true at all & got the guy I want mad. Well lately we haven't been talking but when we do he always says he still likes me amd everything I just have to give it time. What can this possibly mean? I personally think I messed up by having sex with him and catching feelings. by the way After we had sex then when all the insecurities started kicking in. Please help. I do not want to wait for someone who has no intentions of wanting something real with me.
