Do guys "claim" a girl they like?

Well I been talking to this guy for about 2. months now ; we been friends for over 5 years but we just recently started to talk more then friends ; yesterday he came to my house and gave me one of his sweater and it smells like him and he wanted me to put it on ; it was so random ! I was wondering , did he like "claim" me ; as a female, I know I would spray my perfume on my boyfriend so they girls knew he had a girlfriend lol.. Is it like the same thing?

im not too sure he might just want to examine how you look in it or maybe showing you he liked you a little more than friends :)
