A guy accepted my friend request but ignored my message, why?

So this guy and I had a rough start, we sat together in math class and he'd do weird things , and we just had a rough start with each other well I found out he was doing those things was because he was nervous and has a crush on me, and I was rude to him. So I know he likes me, and i return his feelings. and I sent him a message Christmas day, saying a heartfelt apology and asking if we could start new, and sent him a friend request, well a week later so yesterday he accepted my friend request but ignored my message!! It made me feel bad I really want to start new with him.. any ideas why he did this?:(

How often does he visit fb? Some people add others on fb for sake of it, and dont bother with fb message much
