I've never straight up asked a girl for a selfie. At the same time, a picture of a pretty girl, whether it be a selfie or anything else, is pleasant to look at.
I do agree that only douches use pictures of women as trophies.

@rthomas43 I just can't imagine getting my phone out, looking at a picture of a girl and smiling a little, then closing it and carrying on about my day. Perhaps you're genuinely sentimental, but I don't think that's the motivating factor for most dudes. If you feel like you've got tar on you I'll pay for the dry cleaning.
