Why do guys pick their hair and bite nails?

my crush is always biting nails, shaking his leg, and grooming his hair...is he okay? I'm beginning to worry...

He could have anxiety issues. I do and I do little "rituals" i.e biting nails, tapping my foot, little innocent things to help relieve it.

Anxiety is more common then you think, there's meds to help it, I'm not on them, because its not to the point of being extreme. Think about it this way, other then maybe annoying you, is he doing anything terribly wrong? Or defacing himself in any way? If not then I would let things lie, until it becomes a real issue for you to intervene, let him have his little habits.

But he wasn't like this before! he used to be so calm and collected, outgoing guy...i can understand he is stressed from school but I don't know should I ask him what's wrong?

Maybe leave things for a little while, you don't wanna jump down his throat because it could possibly make things worse, even have his anxiety turn onto you and begin resenting you, its a possibility, I say this because I'm like that, and have done it to guys when they get on my nerves about things, the thing about anxiety is it makes you very nervy and tempermental. Like I said I would leave it unless it becomes hazerdous to him, which doesn't seem like the case at this moment.

If anything, maybe just simply say, "Ive noticed youve been a little stressed lately, if there's anything I can do to relieve any of it, don't hesitate to say so" and let him come to you. But like I said, its not that big of a deal what he's doing.

I would think he's nervouce. I know one guy who does bite his nails when we go for sushi together. We're both friends right now but I know he has a crush on me. and I mean, you can always say something like "you must like biting your nails a lot" and tease him a bit and hopefully he'll take it in good humour depending on the tone of your voice.

It could just be a collection of habits. To call it a "nervous habit" would be a bit of an exaggeration, although it is a term commonly used because these innocuous habits display themselves most prominently in situations where the subject needs comfort. The habit is a familiar action, a haven if you will, that a person can retreat to. However they still exist in normal, everyday life -- even when they're perfectly at ease.

Nothing to worry about. Hell, I'm sure you have some habits of your own.

He does it for two reasons. #1 he nervous and #2 he likes you. Bottom line, he doesn't feel comfortable around you, not your fault though - his issue is lack of confidence.

That kind of behavior is due to stress, whether its uncomfortability, anxiousness, nervousness, etc. It can be a lot of things.

Insecurity? I guess if you wanna judge it harshly, but a guy can be nervous and shy and feel uncomfortable (in a good way) around a girl he likes... and not know what to do with his hands or where to look etc. everyone has their own little quirks that they do to soothe themselves when stressed.

e.g. playing with your hair, biting your nails, playing with an object(pencils...) tap their fingers, hum, etc.. there's loads of different things people do to relieve that stress

OH and a big one.,.. is playing around with their cellphones. some people just whip it out and pretend someone texted them or if there's something important on the phone that requries their FULL attention so they can remove themselves from confronting someone, or having to have eye contact with someone or talking to someone.Dont tell me you guys have not done this lol. Everyone does. just the other day, I saw a guy I don't really like in the hallway, whip out my cell and avoided that douchebag

I do all these as well. Doesn't necisarly mean he is nervous. I personaly shake my leg all the time when I hear music, when I am excited lol. Grooming hair I kind of just move my hand to the back of my head from time to time really for no reason to be honest. Bitting nails is a bad habit of mine I could be just bored but when I start I feel I have to keep doing it lol.
