Is it normal that my boyfriend never comes over? He offers to but then hems and haws about it?

We've been together for 5 months and live a mile apart. I've always gone to his place because he lives alone while I have 2 roomates. I have a car, he only has a bike. He does pay for more things in return. This is the 2nd time we had a convo like this:
Him: "Sorry you're sick, do you need anything? I am happy to come over and give you rubs if necessary. Got my bike"
Me: "Hell yeah if you have the energy for it you're welcome to stay over. If not that's ok too."
Him: "Aw, you really want me to come over now? I just want to make you comfy and rested. You tell me how I can best do that."
Me: "Just saying you're welcome to stay over. But I perfectly understand if the roomate factor is weird for you."
Him: "The roomie thing is a little odd but I don't mind at all as long as it means spending time with you, and especially if you are not feeling well."
Me: "If I didn't feel sick, I would totally drive over."
Him: "Aw, I could come over but I would prefer that you get a good night's rest and if you are around tomorrow, we can go out and do something."

If you were in his shoes, would you still try to visit your bf or gf's place anyway even if it was way less convenient? And is it a redflag that he never does?

If he had a car I could see it being a problem but he uses a bike so I can see why he wouldn't.

He probably thinks about it and then thinks about the ride back and forth and then rethinks it.

Also the roommate thing is awkward especially if he is a fairly private person.
